Policy Agenda for the MHES, Term VII
Despite our sadness at Minister Al'Aeshir’s departure, we at the ministry believe that no time should be wasted in mourning Eutopia’s loss, if temporarily, of a good official.
For exactly the opposite will be the goal of the MHES this term. We here will thrive on our exhaustion, and not stop trying to improve on the successes of the former minister.
Latin Strike Action
I must note that I am extremely sympathetic of the plight of the Latins in Eutopia. I believe that they are under-represented, and need to be allowed to have more of an influence on Eutopian politics. But reform must come in the future. For the present I have devised the following plan to deal with the strife:
1) I will contact the leaders of the action to arrange for a conference between all effected parties. This will try and resolve the issue temporarily.
2) If this conference is able to take place, we will listen carefully to the demands voiced, and try to act on them, one by one.
3) However, before even entering negotiations, one particular ‘red-line’ has to be drawn. And that is the demand for Judge Cesar Anton to be released. He is a matter for the courts.
Further Labour Laws
On a long term basis, I intend to announce an initiative to make it illegal for vital-sector employees to strike. This would include nurses, ambulance drivers, doctors, surgeons, firepers, and policepers. I believe that it is a danger to the nation for these people to be able to walk out of their jobs. However, I will seek to form a secondary outlet for these groups to voice their displeasure at any particular matter.
Environment
As minister, I wish to push for a Eutopian clean air act. Such a statute on the books should make it possible for my ministry to fine firms if they release unacceptable levels of harmful gases and smog into the atmosphere. (Exact level to be agreed upon) Using this revenue, I wish invest in treatment for asthma, and other respiratory illness, sufferers.
Health
Waste is the key-word of this term. I want to cut it down to size. I will be examining possible places for such savings.
Family and Youth
There are many who are concerned that at present the moral fabric of the nation is nothing to be desired. I will be speaking with families all around Eutopia to try and remedy any such familial disintegration.
Furthermore, I will try and work in conjuction with the Ministry for Education to try and improve upon the oppurtunities of our youth. This will involve increasing young enterprise and bringing about a culture of entrepreneurship and achievement.
