It's not a bug, it's by design. You're a feudal ruler and heavily dependent upon other characters in governing your clan. Making some 60-year-old with bad health your master of arms and sending him out building castles is a gamble from your side. In a succession, it'll only happen if your heir was landed and had his own master of arms, in which case he'll probably out building a castle of his own... If you want total control, don't hand out land to your heir and he won't get any ideas of his own regarding what castles to build and who to make master of arms.

That's all fine and good except by comments I've read today rulers and other characters tend to die randomly even at extremely young ages with no explanation at all of the cause of death. Within 5 minutes of my gameplay I had one of my female characters kick off at the age of 29. If she had been my Master of Arms, I would have been screwed. That doesn't seem very right to me at all.

Having the work delayed for a month or two would make much more sense. I really can't understand the explanation that's being given; if you've almost finished upgrading your infrastructure, there may be some time while the new people in charge get to grips with things, but all the work that's been done doesn't just disappear into thin air.

You could even make an interesting event out of this, where you have to choose between paying more to minimise delays (to represent resources and manpower being used to solve the problems), or allowing things to get sorted out at their own pace.

I'm okay with this for a few reasons:

1) ninja assasination is more valuable
2) health is more valuable

I'm NOT okay with this for a few reasons:

1) Makes no sense historically
- "Our Master of Ceremonies died my liege, and only he knew where to hang these curtains..."
-"We'll just have to burn it down and try again!"

So it's fine for gameplay, stinks for history. I usually favor gameplay, so I'm okay having this as a mechanic for now.

It's absolutely unrealistic. Can you imagine this as a real fact in the Medieval age? We would not have any of the main buildings we actually have nowadays nowhere.

It is true that this feature is working as designed, but when designed no buildings had longer build times than 2 years. So there could be a setback once in a while like this, but that was deemed OK for gameplay reasons. But since some buildings now take up to four years to build we have been looking at ways to improve this. There will most likely be more information about this next week, so all I can say for now is that I think those who did dislike this will be pleased.

Excellent, thanks for the quick feed back. Sengoku is already a lot of fun, but I think this has the potential to be my favorite game.

So does that mean we will all be gaming it to conquer a kori in the last month of a castle or geisha house construction? I really hope not...

Ok, good.

Still, I'm a bit worried that this change will increase the income levels even further (I believe that they are already too high). And I really did like using ninja to cause a building cancel by assasinating the relevant character. Do we lose this ability?

I must admit to being somewhat disturbed by all progress towards village/castle development being eradicated when the minister involved dies suddenly. Do the villagers "disassemble" the project in question out of reverence to the deceased minister? This can be very aggravating, especially when constructing one of the longer 4 year projects. I would really like to see the progress saved so the replacement minister can finish what was started. I think this would also be more realistic. Many historical structures were completed after the death of those who initiated the project. The farther you go back in time, the more common this occurrence was. Usually the only exception to such development practices occurred when a conquering nation gained control, and decided the project was not in their best interests, although there are examples where the conquerors resumed the work in question (to gain the very benefits the former owners sought).
