This mod makes modest alterations to the game's de jure setup for improved balance. The main theme is to reduce the size of the Byzantine Empire and Kingdom of Greece. Several kingdoms have been removed from the Empire to prevent it from expanding too easily. While some of these changes were for game balance (like Sicily, whose de jure status is debatable), others never should have been in there (like Georgia). But in order to make it harder for the empire to collapse in spectacular form to a Fatimid invasion, the Greek kingdom has been partitioned. Specific changes are as follows:

New Titles
  • Empire of Caucasia
  • Kingdom of Byzantium
  • Kingdom of Epirus
  • Kingdom of Nicaea
  • Kingdom of Siberia
  • Kingdom of Taurica
Moved Titles

Some Croat will murder you for Croatia being subordinate to Serbia. :D

Have no fear...there is a localisation for that empire such that it's called the Empire of Croatia when a Croat rules :). I thought about calling it the Balkan Empire, but I thought that might be a bit wordy on the map.

Well, considering Hungary's ambitions on the Balkans, you could have made it part of Carpathia.

A good suggestion. I considered that option as well; I will dwell on it some more.

EDIT:
Oh crud...I just realized that this messes up the title coats...I will work on that tomorrow.

Considering you're doing tiny de iure tweaks, you could move Viken to Ostlandet, so that the Swedes don't attack Norway constantly.

A new version has been posted with flags for all the newly created titles. This will prevent all the other flags from being messed up in your game. Note that you might need to clear out the /gfx directory in your userdir to get things to work properly...

I also included the fix for Viken...never noticed that quirk before. As for the naming of the Kingdom around Thrace, I thought about calling it Thracia but decided Byzantium had a nicer ring to it. Perhaps I'll change my mind later. I've also thought about breaking up the Arabian Empire. The place to start would be Africa as JoeTheExplorer suggests. However, I've not really had a problem in my games where the Arabs stomp all over the African coast.

What color is that Byzantium? It looks awesome/sexy/amazing/omgisdgsdagasd.
Not sure if that's sarcasm or not... In case it isn't, the color is 69 40 143 on the RGB scale. Though I didn't consciously plan it that way, it's pretty close to the color of the Byzantine Empire in EU3.

You forgot to add the Croatian adjective in the localisation, iron0037!

Why is the "Croatian Empire's" adjective still Serbian, and can you change this? K THX BYE
Welcome to the forums shaydesonic. SBolshevik warned me that this day would come...

I will fix the Croatian adjective localisation once time permits. Thanks for the heads up.

Ok, this tiny mod has been updated to be 2.0.2 compatible. Paradox changed a few things in landed_titles, and those adjustments have been merged in here. I also changed the adjective for the "Serbian" empire to be "Balkan." Once I dug into the matter, I discovered that I had no idea how to add cultural-specific adjectives to titles. If anyone has a solution, I'm all ears.

Code:
d_novgorod_adj_norse;Holmgardian;Holmgardien;Holmgardian-;;Holmgardian;;;;;;;;;x
Here's the Novgorodian adjective change for Norse from 1.10.
Change it into:
Code:
e_serbia_adj_croatian;Croatian;GERMAN;FRENCH;;SPANISH;;;;;;;;;x

Updated to include a Croatian adjective. Thanks for the tip. I had gone digging for an adjective for the Irish localisation of the British Empire, Alba, and returned empty handed.

I've decided to sidestep this whole issue at long last. That empire will now be called "The Balkans" by default. If a Serb is in control, it will be called the Serbian Empire. A Croatian overlord will have it named the Croatian Empire. So the situation where Serbia is the default has been removed. Everybody's happy ;).
