One of the things we planned to have in the game from early on is the ability to "hotjoin" a multiplayer session. Multiplayer can be a lot of fun (we play almost every week at the office!) but it also takes a long time for whole campaigns so it can be annoying to have to restart if someone disconnects, or if you miss the start because you have to feed the kids etc. With hotjoin support you can join after a game has already started (or rejoin) although if the server goes down you need to restart like before, so make sure server is sitting on the most stable connection.

The joining basically works like this:
  1. Player asks to join, instead of immediately getting sent to the lobby you wait for the server to approve you.
  2. Server approves player and the game pauses for everyone while the player picks a country and loads the game (you can also chat while this is happening to help the player pick a good country etc)
  3. When player has loaded game keeps running like normal.

Half-Baked Buns
The reason we have been pretty quiet about this is that we weren’t sure if we would be able to have it ready for release, and it seems we were right :(. The system runs, but with frequent out-of-sync issues so it doesn’t meet our quality standards. Instead of cutting it completely or delaying release for the expansion we have decided we are going to keep it disabled in the release of For the Motherland and enable it in a patch when its fully tested and fixed (as soon as possible!).

I figured you guys deserved to know whats coming at least even if it wont be right away in the expansion. I hope you will find it useful!

About time this was implemented!

Server Browser (if only...) ;)

We got lots more plans for the future which I cant talk about, but we consider multiplayer pretty important and something we want to make easier for new players to get into. Right now it works best with a close group of friends
