NOW IN VERSION 1.1

This is a tiny mod that increases the options for women rulers and courtiers throughout CK2. It unlocks absolute cognatic, enatic, and absolute enatic succession for all secular rulers regardless of religion or culture. It also allows those female rulers to host Epic Tournaments(and their Muslim equivalent), and removes the opinion maluses for both female rulers and female heirs. Finally, this mod enables female chancellors, marshals (and thus army leaders), and stewards. Everything else is untouched, which means it should be compatible with most other mods.

Why?

Because the mechanics of Crusader Kings are lots of fun, but medieval history is awfully sexist. Why would I play as King So-and-So when I could play as the Witch Queens of Spain? Or Norse warrior goddesses incarnate? Or the Sultana/Saoshayant of a reconstructed Persian Empire spanning the globe?

Right now, my little mod doesn't quite live up to it's name, but I have high hopes for it! I wanted to spit it out now so I didn't forget about it, but it's nowhere near done. Future plans include: re-configuring all in-game text and traits to be gender neutral (since I haven't done any of that yet). If I completely lose my mind, I may eventually implement a complete overhaul in which all the rulers are women.

DOWNLOAD HERE

Changelog:
v. 1.1
-enabled great hunts for female christian (and certain pagan) rulers
-enabled hajj trips for female muslim rulers
-allows for female temple holders of all in-game religions

If you want this mod to live up to its name, don't change any text pertaining to levies ;)

Either way, I've desired a mod like this and will try it out, although its current scope suits me just fine.

heh, I've done something similar to my own, but with exception of muslim: they can't get women on any council position there
and christian women should have a high educational trait (it doesn't apply to court chaplain though)

CK2 is a historical fantasy tabletop game that I play on my computer, so why not? :) I'll give it a try. There's no reason not to let women on the council, and female war leaders is an option that is long overdue. (There were a few noted female rulers who took up the sword themselves btw.)

That does not make them widely accepted. They took the sword because of circumstance, not because the general opinion of the nobility wanted it.

As long as this stays a minimod, I'm fine... don't want Johan picking this idea up and throwing it at us a garbage DLC because 'Baaaawwww, but women should be equal to men! Baaaaw!'.

I tend to make personal sub mods like this because I enjoy the added instability. Cognatic Primo combined with throwing titles at every child based on when they were born makes the next rulers reign rather !!fun!!. You can do that with just males, but there's a more reliable about of !!fun!! if you have every single one of your siblings landed and gunning for your neck. And without the stupid realm divide caused by Gavelkind. As for council and crap like that... admittedly, I'm just too lazy to code in the exact circumstances where it should happen, so I do the simple "everyone gets it!!" thing because its easier than checking historical examples from every culture and religion and separating out what is what to determine where everything would be appropriate and then figuring out how to code those situations into it and then account for the fact that attitudes change over time and when the appropriate years should be done to take into account shifting cultural values and outside influence. As well as quite a few other things I can't think of right now but would be beyond a bitch to code.

To really live up to it's name it should make castration available for female rulers regardless of culture :p

Is stuff like Islamic polygamy moddable to work with females, or is it hard-coded and thus impossible to create a harem of burly sayyid men?

Hardcoded to 1 man, multiple women.

Wish that marriage was properly moddable. If only because I think it would make for much more interesting marriage dynamics (especially once rulers start getting in on it; having spousal alliances to both the Queen of France and the King of England would be a delicious recipe for disaster).

Why.

No, seriously, your reason is just plain... why.

Urg, why do people INSIST on making everything liberal friendly around here? I wish people could really just accept that Medieval Europe was indeed sexist.

Grumble grumble.
Speaking from experience, this path is not one traveled by those who know what's good for them, and their future ability to access the forums.

Imagine a mod named "misogyny". The forumites would crucify it.

To be fair it's a mod with a unique idea and sounds interesting.

Yeah, it sure would be terrible to make a mod for fun and then someone decides to make it into a DLC, therefore nobody should mod!

Urg, why do people INSIST on making everything liberal friendly around here? I wish people could really just accept that Medieval Europe was indeed sexist.

Personally, I wanted to make a "liberal-friendly" mod because I'm, well, liberal. Specifically, I wanted to make a feminist mod for CK2, since I'm a feminist. I've got no problem with the fact that vanilla CK2 accurately represents medieval sexism, but sometimes I don't want to play a historically accurate game. That's the same reason that I play any of a dozen other mods, and that's the reason why I made this one.

Is stuff like Islamic polygamy moddable to work with females, or is it hard-coded and thus impossible to create a harem of burly sayyid men?
Sadly, I think it's hard-coded, but I'll poke around and try to confirm that. Maybe Paradox could change that, too... ;)

Thanks for all the other kind words, everyone! I'll admit, I was a little worried to publish this. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wanted this!

At least back in 1.08 or so, you could add spouses by event. If that helps. ;) I also accidentally added a few same-sex couples when I was modding in characters through /history/characters
