[Mini-Mod] Catholics can Mend the Great Schism!

Hey everyone! After looking through the forums I was somewhat surprised that there was no mod that allowed Catholics to Mend the Great Schism, despite me hearing people talk about it often (I may be blind though and not have seen it). Since the Schism was only about 10 years old at the start of the game, I'm surprised they dont have the ability to do it in vanilla. That being said, I made this mod!

It's very basic and doesn't change any vanilla files, so it should be compatible with almost anything. It allows any Catholic ruler of Emperor tier (or the Pope) to unite Christendom if they own the Pentarchy. The only real difference between the Catholic and Orthodox decisions is that I made it so you don't have to own Rome, so long as the Pope controls it. Otherwise the requirements and effects are exactly the same as the Orthodox decision, with some flavor text changed here and there.

I don't personally use that mod,but since this mod has a very limited scope and edits no vanilla files I'd imagine it doesn't conflict, unless The Prince and the Thane gets rid of the orthodox and catholic religions

No, it doesn't, and neither does some of the dialogue, but given the scope of the mod it's not that big of a deal. I couldn't really find a suitable replacement in the GFX folder but I could have overlooked one, so if someone finds one that works better let me know. Otherwise, its not worth changing IMO.

That hardly matters. I doubt that the eastern catholics customs would ever look exactly the same anyway.

Me and one of my friends have been talking about this too. Since I'm on break I'll probably take a look at it somewhat soon once I iron out the details.

Greek Rite, as opposed to the Latin one? Not the best fit for Bulgaria & Russia, but not the worst either.

Firstly I really like this decision; which was and still is lacking in the vanilla game. After all the Schism was a two way split, so IMHO both sides should be able to mend it.

No it does not and it doesn't even have to be replaced.

I noticed something while rummaging through your localisation file, though. EVTDESCCathSchism.102 says

"the Patriarchate of Antioch has been properly restored as one of the episcopal sees of the Pentarchy in the Eastern Orthodox Church".

The other event descriptions say that they've been restored to the Western Catholic Church. I've not properly tested it yet, so not too sure, but I think this might be an error? Sorry if I was wrong though!

latin empire catholics can end the schism by vanilla default, however you will have to add in the ability for them to reform the roman empire if that is your goal

While I generally do dislike determinism in games about alternate history and love every move to remove such, I have to be a party-pooper for once and say that I think Catholics uniting the Great Schism is a very weird idea. A plausible one, sure, but still rather weird.

The Great Schism was after all when the Patriarch/Bishop of Rome claimed to stand above the other Patriarchs and, more importantly, outside of the Basileus' jurisdiction. So technically Catholicism IS a Herecy of the Orthodox Church, hence why it becomes such when Rome is forced to become part of the Patriarchy under the Basileus once more. The Pope can "easilly agree" to once more become part of the Orthodox Church, a Patriarch on level with the other Four under the Basileus. And on the other way around the Patriarchs can agree to become subservant to the Pope and independent of the Basileus. But I still find it weird. Just my two cents.
