I saw in a thread a while back that one feature from CK1 that people liked was you could be canonized as a Saint after death. Now with 2.4.1 I thought I should make something like that, it is a rather small mod that just upon death the Pope (Catholic or Fraticelli if you have SoA) may choose to make you a Saint as long as you are not one of a few traits and you have a decent amount of piety. Even if you fulfil the conditions the chance it still very small but is increased if you are a good Christian who went Crusading or has a priest education etc. the chance is decreased if you are a convert from different religions. The exact conditions are listed below
It is entirely self contained so should be compatible with any other mod out there, if you wish to use it in a bigger mod then just send me a PM and I'll decide.
I never actually played CK1 so I have absolutely no clue if this is how being made a Saint worked back then so if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know, same with any bugs you find!

Download Link

Condtions:
  • Catholic or Fraticelli papacy created with SoA
  • None of: Sayyid, Mirza, Mujahid, Excommunicated, Kinslayer, Homosexual, Possessed, Bad Priest or Hedonist
  • Either 5000 piety or 3000 piety and one of celibate, theologian, priest education, pilgrim, crusader or theocracy

Updates:
  • Added transaltion and better icon by Arko
  • Antipopes cannot become a Saint
  • First release

Credits:
- Me for making it ;)
- Arko for localisaiton translations and better saint icon
- Whoever in the that thread said they liked Saints from CK1

Hope you enjoy!

really nice !

you could probably lessen the chances if you have sins, and increase if you have virtues.
zealous might make its way into sainthood traits either ;)
The sins and virtues are accounted for :p
I couldn't decide with Zealous cause it seems to be a rather easy trait to grab through education from anyone but to meet the others are a bit more difficult, however Zealous does increase your chance of becoming a Saint just doesn't lower the requirements. Saying that the chance itself anyway is rather low being only 10 but I figured we didn't want too many pious people becoming Saints xD

My memories are a bit muddy, but I think it works like this: Some time after a character's death, they might get an event to gain the "Beatified" trait. And then some more time later, they might get canonized as a Saint. This is to emulate the "two miracles after death" criteria for Catholic sainthood, though admittedly it's more of a modern construction, as the exact procedures in medieval times aren't really known. What we do know is that it's likely a very long process, and so it won't be immediate on death.

I really like the miracle facet of it though. If you have interest in making it bigger/more extensive, it'll be great to have random miracle-like events happening to the descent/relatives to the dead person, finally leading to their canonization.
Currently it does take a bit after death to simulate that but in history it was die, if you are a pious guy or whatever be beatified if then some miracle happens after you die you are then properly canonized?

dying as antipope should disqualify you from sainthood i guess, just saying :p
Haha that is probably a good idea, not sure if there is a condition for being an antipope though although saying that don't they auto have a claim on the papacy not that could be checked for I reckon

antipopes are guys with a claim on papacy title.
Done
Saints could also desserve an entry in chronicles.
Also done
may i ask if we could have a variation on the character special title to take into account gender (for languages that use such disctintion like French and Spanish) please ?
Uhhh French has never been my strong point so you're gonna have to give me a hint, if I am correct you want two Saint titles for male and female in English they will both be the same but for French and Spanish they will be different?
It could be a very long process. Check the wiki page for List of beatified people and sort it by date of beatification. Same goes for sainthood. It's more of a petition thing, like someone is revered in their local area, and years or even centuries later people petitioned to have them beatified/canonized. Honestly I think the CK1 method is the way to go. There is no reason to model it after real life.
In that case I'll keep it like it is for now

nice^^

exactly. unless the special title can be gender changed in localization like SAINT_female, but it's not something that works everywhere, so the double entry solution is probably the safest.

did you see my edit on post #7 ;) ?
but miracles would require a bit more work to add. It is already really nice ATM
Miracles would be pretty neat, will have a think about it.
As for the French thing that will be simple enough just need to know what the masculine and feminine of Saint actually are google translate has just said it is "saint"....

Speaking of which if anyone makes a translation for this let me know and I'll just add it in cause my language skills are pretty awful

Sainte is the feminine way. (yes, all that just for one letter :D)
I'll do the whole localisation for French anyway.
Haha fair enough, I've updated it to include the female version of saint to be given out, shouldn't effect anyone using English at all really

edit : just posted a slightly tweaked version of the icon

Good idea! You should try this great, but ancient mod: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ardinals-new-ambitions-beatifications.596053/ . Maybe, you should try to reborn it?
Hmmm seems interesting I'll maybe take a look

Nice! One question though, besides the trait, shoudn't the character also be called "saint"? Maybe you could make it work much like a title.

You know, instead of "King Olaf the Crusader" the character in question would be posthumousy called "Saint Olaf the Crusader". That would be awesome.
They do indeed get the title "Saint"

great^^

i've tweaked a bit and sins and virtue modifiers to make them stacking their effect on mtth (unless it already does with your code).
i also added a piety modifier to favorize is you go far for minimal requirement.

Code:
            #Piety
            modifier = { factor = 1.05 piety = 5500 }
            modifier = { factor = 1.10 piety = 6500 }
            modifier = { factor = 1.15 piety = 7500 }
            modifier = { factor = 1.25 piety = 8500 }
            modifier = { factor = 1.35 piety = 9500 }
            # Seven Sins
            modifier = { factor = 0.80 trait = lustful }
            modifier = { factor = 0.85 trait = gluttonous }
            modifier = { factor = 0.85 trait = greedy }
            modifier = { factor = 0.90 trait = slothful }
            modifier = { factor = 0.85 trait = envious }
            modifier = { factor = 0.90 trait = wroth }
            modifier = { factor = 0.90  trait = proud }
            # Seven Virtues
            modifier = { factor = 1.25 trait = chaste}
            modifier = { factor = 1.15 trait = temperate }
            modifier = { factor = 1.25 trait = charitable }
            modifier = { factor = 1.10 trait = diligent }
            modifier = { factor = 1.15 trait = kind }
            modifier = { factor = 1.25 trait = patient }
            modifier = { factor = 1.25 trait = humble }

another idea would to also ease the chances if moral autority is low. this way sainthood would be seen as a way to try to reinforce faith (opposite reasonning where only an high enough MA religion can canonize someone, is also valid :p).
I was far too lazy to make each trait actually have an effect so I just grouped them as one xD
I couldn't myself decide about MA, would it boost MA or be used as a sign to show high MA each have good reasoning

blackninja9939-

Yeah sure I'll just grab a couple now and update the first post, I will be forcing it to happen though so I don't have to wait for the random chance to kick in.
