Now that Korean and Japanese are separated from the East Asian group, there is no reason to prevent Ming from becoming the cultural union. The current setting is weired.
If this makes Ming too powerful, adjustments can be done on Inward Perfection or local autonomy settings. (Although I feel not, as Ming lost her 135% technology advantage)

Also, I just finished the forming Qing achievement. Found 2 bugs:
1. Forming Manchu turns me into despotic monarchy yet I keep the Nomad unit type. I think someone already posted this.
2. After complete "Unite the Jurchen tribes" mission and form Manchu, there is another mission called "Unite the Manchu tribes". The code for this mission is actually start_the_conquest_of_ming_china. I think paradox forgot to fix the old localization for this mission.

I think the Nomad unit type is just PI's way of nerfing hordes into oblivion. This is probably a deliberate decision.

Agree Ming AND Qing should be the cultural union for the Chinese group. They are both after all the unified chinese states of this era
Furthermore we have a group with two cultural unions(Germany and HRE) so it wouldnt be unique to them

I'd actually say Ming should NOT be a cultural union, but Qing should -- the Qing expanded the definition of 'Chinese' beyond just ethnic Han Chinese.

Ethnic Han are just as much a conglomeration of different cultures as is the Qing Dynasty. Definitions of ethnicity change every dynasty. The Qing isn't special in this case except by virtue of its large dominion. Sure the Ming isn't especially well known for its ethnic composition, but the Qing wasn't exactly tolerant either.

I'd actually say Ming should NOT be a cultural union, but Qing should -- the Qing expanded the definition of 'Chinese' beyond just ethnic Han Chinese.

Paradox actually splitted Han into several sub-cultures based on Chinese dialects -- Wu, Jin, Cantonese, Min, Hakka people all consider themselves as ethnic Han. In fact, during the late Ming period, Yuan Chonghuan (famous patriot and military commander of the Ming Dynasty who battled the Manchus in Liaoning) was a Cantonese. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuan_Chonghuan That's why I say Ming should be a cultural union.

And, it is Republic of China who expanded the definition of 'Chinese' beyond just ethnic Han Chinese, after the fall of Qing.

"Ming" is a DYNASTY name anyways, not a cultural term.

Ming is the name of the empire. The dynasty of Ming is "Zhu".
But anyway, how is dynasty name related to cultural term?
Is Holy Roman Empire, or Habsburg, a german cultural term?
