The Estates Dev Diary today stated that all nations except primitives and Ming will not be receiving estates. Ming was singled out, so I can only assume they are getting some special treatment.

I personally think Ming is going to get a unique internal management system that represents the historical infighting and factional conflict.

What do you guys think?

ye i would rly love to see ming being completely overhauled to make it less of one big united blob, but more like HRE.

aslong as ming is treated like any other united nation in the game it will stay the no brainer nation it is now,we need some major fraction and internal strife to make it more challenging and realistic

They are singled out as a nation that gets nothing.

We might look to adapt Ming's factions into estates (with those without expansion keeping factions) but not for 1.14.

I was hoping that, since they weren't getting estates, they might get something this expansion that would later be covered in another DD.

Alas, I think it was just wishful thinking.

I think this would be the best option. You reform, and your factions turn into estates.

I think this Estates system fit Ming well, especially the notion that one faction/estate getting dominant is hurtful to the nation. It make sense to give Ming a modified Estates system with big influence to/from the Mandate of Heaven and legitimacy. One faction dominating should give Ming even bigger penalty, while a weak emperor with low authority/legitimacy will have great difficulty righting the ship and weakening that faction. Ideally this should be a big enough balance for Ming to replace the flat 50% autonomy.

On a second thought, even the stability system can be replaced. Add an addition "Estates" as commoner, who only has the "Loyalty" value. The Loyalty will be affected by a lot of factors, but cannot be raised directly by granting provinces, and investing MP can only temporarily increase it. Any other estates dominating will also lower the Loyalty of commoner.

Out of curiosity, Wiz, will colonial nations, hordes and Americans also get estates or are they an exception like Ming?
I doubt Hordes will get estates. You could get base 3 estates plus some to simulate nomadic vs settled issue (reform government decision would be changed significantly). This was really important in popular picks among Hords (Timmurids, Machu into China). Too ambitious Persian nobles, later Turkmen nobles plotting against Timur's heir (both were hating each other), Chinese despise nomads etc.
Perhaps settled and nomadic estates? Nomadic burgees couldn't develop steppe infrastructure beyond some point and there for they would be useless in game (not to mention they didn't have representation beside clan chief). Maximal sustainable nomadic population density on steppe isn't high.. Some way to transfer them into settled over time would be nice.
If model Horde would be Timurids (popular, a lot of historical records), there would be noble nomads (chiefs etc.), common nomads and two similar estates for settled people(?). Settled nobles would provide you with manpower (diplomatic relations? LA ticking? [with floor of course]) and unrest or at least revolt every time you are low on manpower.
