So... no militia, partisan and garrison like in HoI3? Just simple infantry what you can use as garrison/militia?

You differentiate with the training and equipment you give them. An infantry division with no heavy equipment, basic rifles and no training is basically a militia unit.

Have we seen any partisan gameplay, or does the modifier simply have an impact on industry and resources in that region?

Every state has an unrest rate and if it's high enough partisans will start wrecking stuff and help your enemies with intel. You can lower the rate by garrisoning occupied areas.

You differentiate with the training and equipment you give them. An infantry division with no heavy equipment, basic rifles and no training is basically a militia unit.

The problem cames when you want to mix-up standard infantry and militia, like in the Italian 1940 divisions, which had two infantry regiments and one of CC.NN. militia...

In HoI 4?

Yes. In HoI 4 you can decide which kind of equipment, training and supply priority a division can have. Thus, you can create untrained, low equipped, low prioritized division (= militia/garrison divisions). But you cannot decide which kind of equipment and training a regiment inside one division can have.

I think one of the first things I will mod in that Infantry needs Support Equipment ( representing MG´s, Mortars, InfantryGuns & other light Guns ... etc. ).

So consequently Militia in this mod would not need support eq., being cheaper and less capable.

From the various WWW, it seems that infantry divisions already can have support equiment assigned. Isn't it?
Anyway, it would be the same to add a new type of unit: militia. HoI4 looks very easy to mod.

I created a thread just like this several months ago. Many of the responses were training and equipment dictated militia and garrison units. However, several people, including myself pointed out that that is fine for normal healthy young recruits, but not older, maimed, or unsuitable recruits due to poor health - which would however qualify as militia units.

Militia cannot be represented accurately in this game unless there is some sort of secondary manpower count showing unsuitable recruits for normal combat units. You can get away with garrison units that have less equipment and less training, but not Militia units which are supposed to represent the Home Guard, and Volkstrum infantry.

Recruiting and training the older population is represented by the "all adults serve" and the "scraping the barrel" recruitment laws. It makes harder to train up your division because of the poor manpower quality.

Historically I don't think all millitia had worse recruits than normal units, sometimes they were just poorly trained and equipped. For instance in the Spanish civil war, the republic fielded many militia units as a result of most of the army supporting the rebels. Their recruits were the same able bodied men you could find on army units, they just had poor training and equipment.

If you wanna have militia with unsuitable recruits you can deploy poorly trained and equipped units when you have the harsher recruitment laws.

I think the support equipment you have seen there may come from the support battalions, the infantry itself doesn´t need it.

That maybe the case for some units that were hastily recruited, but not for those unable to fill the health requirements of normal recruits.

The change in conscription law does go some distance to cover the unsuitable recruits, and now that it has been brought up, it does remind me that that was also talked about before.

I think one of the first things I will mod in that Infantry needs Support Equipment ( representing MG´s, Mortars, InfantryGuns & other light Guns ... etc. )...

The first mod I would want is one where 10 000 soldiers need 10 000 guns (alias infantry equipment), not only 1000. The devs said it's more "simple" this way. I don't see how dividing the needs by 10 is more "simple". It's surely is less realistic. And also, why tanks, planes ans ships are on a 1 for 1 scale ?

The first mod I would want is one where 10 000 soldiers need 10 000 guns (alias infantry equipment), not only 1000. The devs said it's more "simple" this way. I don't see how dividing the needs by 10 is more "simple". It's surely is less realistic. And also, why tanks, planes ans ships are on a 1 for 1 scale ?

Because infantry equipment is the equipment for the squad, not the man. It includes support weapons, mortars, supplementary equipment (maps / canteens / field cooking equipment)

If you try to do the equipment per man then you need a way of deciding the ratios of sub machine guns and all the rest. The way Paradox have done it is much easier and makes more sense.

Not all the soldiers use the same weapon.
Some a sub machine gun, rifle, licht machine gun, grenade launcher, Mortar, bazooka,....
so i find a weapon packing for 10 soldiers far more realistic.

That maybe the case for some units that were hastily recruited, but not for those unable to fill the health requirements of normal recruits.

The change in conscription law does go some distance to cover the unsuitable recruits, and now that it has been brought up, it does remind me that that was also talked about before.

Militia is not necessarly made by maimed or old men. Italian MVSN, German Luftwaffe-Feld Divisions, French Légion étrangère, the US National Guard, almost all colonial troops and even the Waffen-SS can be classified as "militia units". Generally speaking, from the beginning of the 20th century, they can be called militia all the corps made by part-time or on-call soldiers.
In HoI4 terms, what can be different between standard infantry and militia are just the numbers. For example, militia battalions can require less manpower then standard battalions; they an have lower (or higher) org, morale, soft attack, suppression, etc etc etc.

Now, what you can do at the moment in HoI4 is to act on training level and equipment of a whole division to make it a regular, or a militia, or a garrison division. What you cannot do (atm) is to create a mixed division. It is nothing too much important, just a little bit less flavour to the game, IMMO. (And, anyway, you can mod in militia-type units, one for all or one for each nation ;) )

Yes, they are not all represented by that, but say in the case of the National Guard, that would be and was in previous HOI games considered a garrison unit. I think in terms of the game it would be a unit put together quickly by sub-standard soldiers - like the two units I've already mentioned. You can declare that the conscription law takes it into account, and be happy with that, but it would never be as accurate as the system I proposed.
