I am Milan. I am the one True Country. All the Rebels shall bow to Milan, soon, very soon.

But first, I need to orient myself. I have just been born, after all. Not the country, the conciousness that is Milan, that shows me I am the True Country. Milan before The Change was part of an Alliance, I find. England, Naples, Portugal, and Milan. I have a very small army, so I won't leave the alliance yet.

I build up my army. Infantry, Calvalry. I sense the knowlege of greater things coming, but I can't grasp it. Artillery. I feed the knowlege to my Countrymen.

The year is 1496. War breaks out between my allies and another alliance, France, Savoy, Papal States, Brittany, and Helvetia. I believe I have enough of an army to expand. I honor the alliance.

They know me. They come and try to destroy me. France, Savoy, Papal States, and Helvertia all leave the Milan army in shambles. No choice. I send France many shiny pieces which I am very fond of. They help build armies. They accept, and leave me alone. I rebuild.

September 1st, 1505. I look to Parma. They're in an alliance, too. I cannot defeat the entire alliance. I send gifts to the rest of the alliance, hoping for the best, and declare war. No-one helps Parma. I call upon my allies just in case. After all, they had me destroyed earlier. Parma is easily defeated in one battle, only using half my army. As of June 13th, 1506, I've doubled the size of myself.

I take 9 years to build up more strength, I can because I have 2 Provinces. I look to Tuscany. I send my newly found fleet to check it's true strength. They're weaker than a Golden Hordesman without a rusty, yet pointy, spear.

5/15/1515. It's a sign. I declare war on Tuscany. Luca is painfully easy to take. I reposition troups in Modena, and they revolt. On October 10, the revolt is crushed. I move south to Florence. Tuscany is now Milan, September 21, 1516.

On January 1st, 1518, Luca is revolting, and smelly. The recognized Leaders of Milan(Idiots, they're lucky I'm here) make a speech, telling the people of Luca so, and Luca is up in arms. Milanmen crush this, of course.

February 1st. I've listened to motivational speakers in Milan. To succeed in anything, you must set goals. Small steps toward the true goal. Europe in the true goal. My first step, will be to take over Italy.

August 1st. Florence revolts. Easily crushed.

January 14th, 1519. Ragusa and Hungary declare war against Austria, England, Naples, and Portugal. I hold up my end of the bargain, and declare war with them. They'd have to walk through Austria to get to me.

April 21st, Navarra, Spain, and Genoa enter the war! I can beat up Genoa! But, that would gain me nothing, as I could not take the capital without having every province of Genoa. I let Austria go after them. Genoa pays to remove Austria from Genoa, and the threat to Milan is gone.

January 10th, 1520. Portugal is as weak as an Englishman without a longbow. Navarra takes Oporto from them, permanently. Sad.

April, and September, 1520. Repeated revolts in Luca. Always bashed back into the dust from which it came.

November 4th, 1520. The war with Hungary is over. I find it humorous that they took back Pest. I wish they'd fight against the Turks, who I can't touch yet. I hate Moslems. Catholic is the religion of the True Country. I still fight against Navarra and Spain.

January 4th, 1521. France, Savoy, and Scotland declare war with Genoa, Spain, and Navarra. Ha! They'll never survive. They're weaker than Portugal.

September 23rd,, 1523. I forgot who I was supposed to be fighting. Ah yes, Navarra and Spain.

Spain starts attacking my coastal provinces. I send out my might fleet of 3 ships. They lose, but all ships remain intact. I put them back in port, then send them out again! I win the battle! 3 against 5 better equiped ships! I really AM Mighty Milan. I ask for a white peace, so they'll stop killing my men needlessly. They agree. Navarra and I soon get a 36 month White Peace, and I'm out of all the wars. They were boring me, anyway. Nowhere to attack. July 10, 1526.

Friday, February 13th, 1527. Helvetia changed religion to Protestant. I declare now. They rush at me, and take the province of Milan! I use my strange powers to make everyone fall asleep, and the Milano Armies from the south marched into Milan and killed them in their sleep. Then, went on to Helvetia and besieged it.

Happy Christmas to me! We annex Helvetia on December 25th, 1527. Milan is now from Helvetia to Florence, through Luca, Modena, and of course, Milan. I set my sights on the Papal States, and wait... rebuilding... and waiting...

(There's a huge hole in my notes here, because... nothing happened...)

April 12, 1549. Mighty Milan watches the Papal States enter a war. This is supposed to be good for Mighty Milan, but it isn't. They build up their Pope Brand Armies, cheap and worthless compared to Milan's. 150 thousand men, roughly. Mighty Milan doesn't know, nor care, who they fight. Might Milan just hopes those armies start to be lost, either through shipping or other countries armies coming from abroad. Mighty Milan hopes they don't pick up an extra province that Mighty Milan would have to sail to when Mighty Milan annexes them.

August 1, 1562. Mighty Milan creates an alliance between Portugal, Mighty Milan, and Baden. They're the only ones that are not so horribly jealous of Mighty Milan. Mighty Milan immediately vassalizes Baden.

August 1, 1563. The tyrant leader of Mighty Milan is influenced by me to declare war on the Papal States. Mighty Milan can easily take care of their allies. The First Minister explains that Milan(he doesn't believe we're so Mighty... imbecile) doesn't have a Casus Belli against the Papal States. The Leader claims that Milan wants to unite Italy. The Minister says that that's not a good enough reason, and the Leader says that Milan never had a Casus Belli before. Why not against the Papal States?

October 10, 1564. To the very bad place with Casus Belli! The Might of Milan shall come down upon the Papal States!

October 11, 1564. The World has had enough. Everyone declares war with Milan. The Minister was right. I will make him King. Spain and Wartemburg, and their alliances, are the major attackers. The Minister buys off the Papal States. One alliance out of the war. Baden, who would've thought, Beautiful Baden annexes Wartemburg. Two out, one to go. Spain, Savoy, and the gang are ganging up on Milan's already depleted armies. The Minister buys off Spain, and the war ends. I would not have done it quite that way. But I have thought about this, and Milan should have time to recover, and my tactics will not help at this time. Magnificant Milan has jumped out of the pot, and missed the fire completely. The New King shall lead us into an era of rebuilding our greatness.

I lie dormant for about 5 years. Magnificant Milan rebuilds very fast, now that we have so much territory. But I grow bored, and must begin to expand again. Magnificant Milan should be bigger, not the lousy 5 provinces. I start to manipulate the King.

After 5 years of careful manipulation, and 5 years of stupidity by the Pope... 100,000 men in Rome, just sitting there, ravaged by attrition... Magnificant Milan declares Holy War on the Pope. We believe in Tolerance, after all, and the States are Counter-Reform. France and Venice enter the war, along with Portugal and Beautiful Baden on the side of Magnificant Milan. We march into the Papal States, taking Emilia, Rome, and Romanga, in that order. The Papal States were weak. France, however, has beseiged Magnificant Milan's precious Helvetia. I order half my forces to head to Helvetia. Magnificant Milan's forces fight, retreat, fight again, retreat again, over and over... until we finally take back what is rightfully ours! The other half of the army storms through Venice, completely destorying everything after Mantua.

September 24, 1590. Venice has had enough of Magnificant Milan. They yield what I wanted, Mantua. Magnificant Milan's forces grow ever stronger.

November 20, 1590. I take time out from ordering people around to offer Papal States an ultimatum. Be annexed, or be dead. Maybe they aren't so unbelievably stupid as I thought. Monstrous Milan grow larger.

But what of France? They need to be tought a lesson. With the others in the Alliance taken care of nicely, Monstrous Milan and Precious Portugal, who had been keeping France from completely invading Monstrous Milan(one can only do so much, you know! Even Mighty, Magnificant, Monstrous Milan!) I gather Monstrous Forces and march on Lyonnais. The French are weak frogs out of water. I easily take Lyonnais, and move quickly on to the next.

Emilia revolts. I accept Lyonnais as Monstrous Milan's only tribute from France, and the Monstrous Force rushes back to quell the revolts spreading through Monstrous Milan. They fall easily. They were just for show, no doubt, so they would be in good favor with the Pope. Who would not want to be part of Monstrous Milan?

Seriously, there is such a glut of AAR out there, you can't get discouraged. I know, when i did my Ethiopia AAR, i was worried from time to time that none were reading it, but really, if you don't do it for others, do it for yourself.
Kepp on chugging along, as this looks to be a very promising AAR

I'm kinda hoping I get crushed beneath someone's boot, to put Milan in it's place, hehehe... yeah, I'll do it for myself, and for Milan!! Can't abandon him in his time of need! But I'm already past 1590 and I'm not a huge superpower yet. Just 10 provinces, Lyonnais, Helvetia, Milan, Mantua, Modena, Luca, Florence, Emilia, Romanga, and Rome... not too bad for being a strategy failure! :)

Actually, 10 provinces from a one province nation in 58 years? That is actually pretty good. I have seen some 1 nation states annexed in 5 years, so at least you are still around :D
Good luck, and keep it coming.

Actually it was 1592 when I got Lyonnais, so it's 100 years. Heh. If you remember I got attacked early on, and I almost WAS annexed... well, if that were possible, but I'm not particularly fond of crashing to desktop, makes it hard to remember what date I was annexed.

Milan-will-go on! Milan-will-go on!

Is it morally acceptable to kill? To needlessly destroy lives of millions of people for a pointless goal that will never be reached? I may be the True Country, but what if I annex all Europe, and the fighting does not stop? Why must everyone see it as I see it? Milan should rule all Europe, of course, but the Milanese should not be destroyed to get to this point, present OR future. The King would know what to do, I'm sure of it, but I have tampered with him so greatly, all he can think of is war, and killing, and making Milan's glory known. There is no glory in winning provinces. Only in keeping them. None of them want to be kept. Revolts are destroying me. The Dream is dying. No more war, until, at least, there is no more threat of revolt.

Well Milan is tough on the start but it shapes ûp nicely afterwards. Make good use of the leaders you get in the first 100 years and you're set. You won't get any leaders aferwards.
My course of action, of the pic higher on the page, was war with Savoy. France & Papal States joined. I annexed Savoy & two French provinces then. Later France DOW'ed me, took another two provinces and the Papal States. from there it was easy. Together with my noble Christian allies Spain & Austria we kicked Europe's butt

1599: Malcontent Milan

The world outside goes on, I only worry about Malcontent Milan. Revolts spread like wildfire through the new lands. Militaristic Milan beats back the pitchfork weilding weaklings. If they ever capture a province, they will be drafted into the Milanese army.

September 6, 1599. Portugal declares war on Spain. I'm not ready to face her allies, I cannot honor this declaration. I send out a letter to Portugal. "You rule your lands with grace and skill. I marvel at the fair, yet iron-fisted way you preside over your many lands. I'm quite certain you can fend for yourself against Spain, and have no need of help from such a tiny and insignificant country as Milan. Especially since you will have Baden on your side!
Your Ally,
Milan
P.S. You're too militaristic for me and I don't want any part in this Alliance any longer."

1600-1604. Revolts still ravage the lands. I recieve a Herald from Poland-Lithuania. Finally, a strong alliance! Poland-Lithuania, Persia, Austria, Hungary, and Aden(wherever that is). I readily join.

So, of course, in Dec 1605, Poland Lithuania declares war on Turkey. I honor the alliance, I am readier than I was.

Turkey has allies, most of which I never heard of. Algiers, Nubia, Georgia, and Hafsid Empire. Who are these people?

August 6th, 1606. We win a naval battle against Turkey, and steal their rutters. What an eye opener! I whole New World out there, already full of Spanish Conquistadors, English Tea Drinkers, and French Frogs.

November 4th, 1606. Milan is not Lucky Milan. Venice declares war, with all their allies. I call upon mine, only Poland honors.

Jan 1, 1608. Rome revolts. I leave an army there, just in case, and the next month, Emilia revolts! Can this possibly get any worse? We take Venice from Venice, and hope for peace.

April 27th, 1608. Poland and Turkey return to status quo. I march for Triest.

Dec 20, 1608. Of all the lousy things to happen. Austria declares war on me, and brings Bavaria and Hungary with them.

April 1st, 1609. Peace with Venice. 500 ducats to me.

Dec 8, 1609. I give the money to Austria for peace, as they take province after province... I get them all back, but I needed those 500 ducats.

May 16, 1610. Politically annex Baden, and it revolts.

January 1, 1614. Romagna and Baden revolt. Romagna takes the forts without a fight, even though the force of Rebels were defeated. Baden wins their revolt, and sieges the province.

July 19, 1614. We take back Romagna and take out the Baden revolt, for the time being.

Poland-Lithuania and Turkey war again. I, stupidly, honor the alliance.

No time to record dates. Bohemia, Saxony, Hanseatic League, and Bradenberg declare war against me. Even Poland dishonors, this time.

A few years into that war, Venice, Austria, and Hungary declare war.

I manage to keep Bohemia and her allies out of former Baden, I still don't know how. Hasnseatic League, then the entire alliance, falls out of war with a white peace.

I manage to keep Austria out of my hair, and out of my provinces, and they accept a white peace.

I pay Venice everything I own when Bavaria takes Lyonnais.

That still leaves Turkey. They come into Mantua, and demand it. I kick them out with my forces that were fighting Venice and Austria.

August 26, 1627. Poland and Turkey sign a status quo peace. No more attacks on Mantua...

Feb 1, 1628. Bavaria comes back into being from Austria. I wonder when it was annexed...

I find new friends. The Frogs want me to join an alliance, with Savoy, Genoa, Poland, and Bavaria. I sign up, hoping to annex Bavaria, Savoy or Genoa in a peaceful sort of way. I am a peaceful sort of country, after all.

January 3, 1637. France politically annexes Savoy. Too late.

1639: Marine Milan

June, 1639. I can now build shipyards! Marine Milan shall rule the seas!

I tell my men researching Land technology to research Naval technology instead.

June 2, 1643. War again! Sad state of affairs in Europe these days. Poland declares war on the Teutonic Order. After all the allies join, the fight is set up, Poland with France, Bavaria, and of course, Marine Milan, against the evil and weak Teutonic Order, Spain, and England.

I immediately win a naval battle against Spain, and steal the rutters. They match with Turkey's, so it really WASN'T a trick. The New World DOES exist.

August 12, 1644. Teutonic Order annexed by Poland. It's time to teach Spain a lesson in humility. I bet we can steal some of their islands, at least.

We go after some island or other of Spanish rule, and we are beat back by their evil pointy axes.

We retreat to the ships, and the ships retreat to Modena.

I interfere for the first time with the New King of Peace. He dreams of empty Spanish lands... no troups in sight...

The next day, 30 Warships set sail for Spain.

They arrive at the Gulf of Valencia, and unload into the very empty province of Valencia. The ships blockade the port, and on May 11, 1646, Spain sues for peace, offering Valencia. Magnificent Marine Milan has accepted Spain's poor offer for peace. We now have 13 provinces.

The ships sail back to Mainland Milan, and load more troups. The troops in Valencia stay to quell the revolts that will assuredly come. It's time to find out how long it takes to get to England.

We sail for months, and eventually arrive, and unload into Munster. We again use the blockade effectively, and Munster falls. England will not give up so easily, though, as they storm into Munster and tear us to shreds, leaving four thousand men, out of the thirty that started the voyage.

Status Quo peace is reached, November 4, 1648. But England now knows that they are not out of Marine Milan's reach. We claim it was the Valencia revolts that called us back.

1649: Milan with Muskets

October 30, 1650. France declares war on Spain. We do too, eager to show off our new Muskets. We hold Valencia against everything Spain can throw up against it, by land and by sea. There are hardly any casualties on our side.

August 2, 1651. Status Quo peace, France with Spain. I was just about to attack, as well! I wouldn't taken half of Spain from my base in Valencia!

Sometime between the last two wars, Milan began to send the revolters to the New World, to create the city, in Delaware, of "More Milan." I have no control over More Milan, at least, not directly. It is like a son to me. I can influence it, but it might not listen...

Are you sure Mighty Milan, Magnificent Milan, Marine Milan, Morose Milan aren't simply a reincarnation of T. S. Garp?? (quick note - the initials T.S. kept changing throughout the movie, and maybe book, but I never read the book - once was Terribly Shy then became Terribly Sexy...)

Nice AAR - like the style, keep em coming

I would've played a hundred years, but... EU keeps crashing to desktop on me for no apparent reason! This time, right in the middle of my autosave. Please don't be corrupted, please don't be corrupted!
