I don't know the answer to the first part.
You were presumable unaware of it from whatever year you were born in all the way up to about 7 minutes ago. So I don't really know the answer to the second part either, as missing some crucial data.

Well, perhaps you can tell me when YOU became aware of Midway Island having it's own trade node, and we can start limiting this uncertainty down?

I will add that i think it is a great change.
I could get japan trade down into indonesia without killing Ming.

That makes sense, i've just been burning down selected parts of Europe since then, and havn't looked in the Pacific.I think it was part of the Emperor update, so 2 month ago or something
