“Pz III with a 50mm gun?” - is a great thread. It’s one of my favorites so far. I’ve read a lot of discussion about the tech tree, production, tank models etc… There are a lot of Guderian wanna-bes like me.

Well at the risk of becoming even more annoying, I will never stop asking “What if…” (at least until the moderators get sick of it and kill my account  )

What if an expansion to HoI2 allowing more micromanagement of production, force configuration, specific weapons R&D, doctrine research etc. were to become available? Would there be a demand? I know we will all have our hands full with the new game and all the minor modifications for a while. But will there be a demand for this kind of expansion a year from now?? Is that something to be included in an HoI3??

I suggest an expansion because I keep reading that Paradox must keep the game playable for newcomers.

Constructive discussion – not destructive concussion please.

P.S. This actually might be the right time to discuss these things in case Paradox hasn't sold its soul to its next project already.

You aren't asking for an expansion but for a whole new game. If you introduce a much finer tech tree and a editor to build your own divisions out of parts, you have to make sure that all these choice actually have an influence on gameplay. That requires a lot of testing, programming, design, balancing, research, scripting etc.

And frankly, I am not interested. The CORE tech tree was the upper limit of micromanagement for me.

I kind of doubt Paradox will be making anything like that, but surely there will be mods about all kinds of stuff. Tech tree can be expanded and unit types changed, possibly enough to please even the weirdest of us micromanagers.

I honestly believe that if HOI 2 is a success there will be at least one expansion pack of some type.
This is not something we usually see from Paradox, but it seems to me they are going in a direction that is more focused on a broad audince. For good and bad. Mostly for good though if you ask me. :)
And as long as the gold version is playable and don´t have any serios bugs, I really don´t see why anyone of us should demand free expansion in form of patches.
