Playing as Texas 1836 GC Normal with OHGamer's hotfixes. I have around 55 plurality, which is the highest or so in the New World, as well as the 3rd highest prestige since I avoided humiliation from the big bad Mexicans. Anyway, I now am having a huge boom of European immigrants, and although all of them assimilate almost immediately, I have a growing populace of Irish, around 10% of my total population, sitting in Austin and refusing to assimilate.

Will the Irish assimilate, or am I going to be stuck with these damn red-headed, whiskey drinking, non-beard shaving Micks?

But yes, they are employed. I cannot imagine, however, Irishmen becoming big manly burly Texans...

The idea of a rapidly growing group of Irish farmers invading Austin sounds bad no matter how you look at it. How could you let this happen? :p In any case, the cap is 10,000 if they are different religion and employed. If they don't get assimilated soon, you could split the POP (POP splitter program is available.), or force them out of work and thus, maybe get them to migrate. Not sure what that'd do to your economy, but they're out of my hometown at least. :p

One of my pet peeves about Victoria is the speed at which POPs assimilate. Playing as the US you will very rarely see the emergence of large ethnic groups as happened historically. Your case sounds as though the system is finally working correctly.

Edit: If you're really afraid of a tide of unwashed Gaels swamping your pristine desert and scrubland then feel free to place an anti-immigration Know Nothing party in power.

For good assimilation, the pobs must be employed. Other problem for assimilation is the religion (I don´t remember the Texas religion, but if it is Catholic, protestan pobs like irish or north german take more time than catholic pobs).

The big problem in these question is that Irish emigrates massively, and then they join to the irish pobs that previously have arrived to the province.

Texas IIRC is Protestant, so Catholic POPs will assimilate more slowly.

Lower class POPs with a different religion will assimilate if they are less than 10k under a full citizenship party, if they are less than 2k under a limited citizenship party and under 300 for a residence/slavery party. This goes for all American countries, except the USA.

<_<. Easy fix: Turn them all into soldiers and send them to war. Kick Mexico while she's down with the Fightin' Irish...only make sure to send them only on suicide runs. Problem solved, and you might come out a little larger.

Unfortunately, USA won the Civil War in a month, kicked Mexico's ass all the way to the Yucatan and then declared war on me because I developed -150 relations with them, apparently because the Civil War somehow effects my relations with a country I've had an alliance with a dozen times. I quit the game and am probably going to delete it.

You can't promote non-national POPs in Revolutions without Full Citizenship

Note that even in alliance relations degenerate over time (1 point per month IIRC) so even when you are in alliance you need to keep watch over your relations as declines can still happen, especially if circumstances change with the AI nation (by the 1860s you as independent Texas are an impediment to the completion of Manifest Destiny by the Union). Long story short, never relax on improving relations with powerful neighbors.

I never heard of assimulation. This is a first :eek: I just have minorities I'll try to force to rebel, and then squash! This can be accomplished by promoting clergyman, soldiers of my nationalities, and let my favorites have all the good jobs too... :rofl: (clerks/craftsmen/bank tellers/fast food restaurants and real estate). Up the poor tax, and viola!


My pet peeve about Victoria is nationality and pops in general. Plus I'm in love with the music, and the "secureness" in a non liberal, non plural (vocal) 19th century world. All is well.
