Dear Mr. President,
I appreciate your consideration of my offer to serve as Minister of Heritage and Social Affairs.
You will find that I am a dedicated and thorough worker. If anything, you will find that I am quite pragmatic and will accomplish a lot without setting unrealistic goals.
With the elections approaching, it would be unreasonable to promise sweeping changes from this ministry in such a short period of time. I will use the time remaining to improve the state of Eutopia's social affairs using existing resources, and should not require any special action on behalf of this office from the parliament.
Specifically, I will work to:
* Launch a program to preserve Franco-Eutopian culture which will partner public and private resources to host a series of lectures on Eutopian History and Culture through our universities and to subsidize a public-private radio station in the Franco-Eutopian provinces. Such a program would help promote the work of the Antiquarian Society, as well.
* Examine the implications of government work projects on the economy and determine the benefits and adverse affects that could result for Eutopia's workers.
* Begin work, though I cannot promise it will come to completion before the end of your current term, on a commission responsible for drafting a charter of worker's rights.
Let me say that in the short tenure of this office I will not attempt to reinvent our social welfare system. However I think a constructive dialouge can be initiated to evaluate the current system. I do not think the government has the resources to ensure 100% employment through public works projects, however if we concentrate on very specific problems, we should be able to at least offer constructive recommendations for improvement.
My work to date has been nonpolitical in nature. I do not belong to any political party, so I do not bring any party's agenda to this office. True, this means I will not have the backing of a party of supporters, but remember that independent voters do vote too.
In addition to my role in the
Anglican Church of Eutopia, you will find that I have been active in the
Eutopian Bar Association and promoting athletics through the
Eutopian Lacrosse Series. You will also find that, simply as a private citizen, I have done my best to stay informed and active in Eutopia's affairs, contributing to discussions concerning the construction of a highway system and nuclear power plant, and other current issues.
If I can provide any additional information or answer any questions, please contact me at your convenience.
Thank you again for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jack Teano
