So we know that we'll have the three options for travel: Warp, Wormholes and Hyperspace.

Given that the Blorg Stream uses warp drive, this is the only travel method we've properly seen so I've a question or two.
  1. With Wormholes how does the initial construction of the web start? My assumption is that you build the first generator in your home system which then puts other areas within reach. To then extend this reach you build subsequent generators in each system. Is that accurate?
  2. Are Hyperlanes subject to the same cooldown restrictions as warp drive? Meaning can they travel hyperlanes indefinetly once instructed to go somewhere, or will they have to wait in each system and get their hyperdrives to spool up or the like?
Hail the Blorg!

You can see a bit of Hyperlane in Quill18's brief LP vid.

Are Hyperlanes subject to the same cooldown restrictions as warp drive? Meaning can they travel hyperlanes indefinetly once instructed to go somewhere, or will they have to wait in each system and get their hyperdrives to spool up or the like?
Hyperlane has usage cool down too, but it appears shorter than Warp's and doesn't get stun-locked so long after usage, unlike Warp. Hyperlane can also be used within a star system instead of at the edge of the system like Warp and Worm Hole.

Out of curiosity, what methods of FTL will you guys be using? I played Ascendancy on iOS while it was on the app store and got very into the use of Hyperlanes, but I'm pretty attracted to the freedom of Warp.

My first play throughs will most likely be with hyperlanes and then warp once I'm more comfortable. Wormhole if I wanna give myself a challenge once I've mastered most of the mechanics.

I'll go for Hyperlane. Not too easy, not too hard. Wiz seemed to like it aswell.

Wormholes are definitely going to be my first play through. I play space 4x's quite a lot, so I'm very used to the whole Warp/Hyperlane style of system connectivity.
Wormholes for me promise something new and exciting that will play very well into whatever headcanon I come up with, I'm sure.

And also with hyperlanes you can play a lot more strategically, such as heavily fortifying a choke point system. This works better if you restrict every race to hyperlanes as well which I may end up doing at some point but not for my first few plays.

I think I'll go for Wormholes. I think it will temper the desire to to crazy and explore all over the place and over extend. Plus as others have said it'll be a nice change to the standard 4X experience.

And it'll let me create a Worldweb like in 'The Hyperion Cantos' :)
