Could someone be so kind as to explain how this works. Im sure I am missing something obvious but so far all my attempts to customise them have failed. I like to play the game on a very slow speed with lots of messages regarding many other countries so extra filtering options is great. There is a new addition to the message setting set-up in EU4 which helpfully categorizes countries into groups such as Enemies, Neighbours, Europe, Asia etc.

But my choices are always reset to default. If I open this menu and select a category then tick and untick nations Im interested in, as soon as I change category my previous selection is lost/reset. I also noticed a tooltip which says if I right click on the category tab my selection will be added. Added where, is there a masterlist some place? Either way, as soon as I leave the category to customise the next category my choices have been reset. Again. Finally, if I try to go through each category and deselect everything, then right click to 'save' this choice I find the default settings reappear instead.

So what am I doing wrong or miss-understanding?

There is only one set of message settings, where for each country, you define it as being "interesting" or not. The choices of enemies, neighbours, etc. are just presets for the "interesting" list. So when you click on "enemies", all your enemies become "interesting", clearing everything else. Then, if you click "Europe", all of Europe becomes "interesting", clearing everything else. And so on. In other words, those groups are not filters for the country list, they are categories that you can choose (but not combine, sadly).
