I have many separate naval/air units I want to merge. But I cannot figure out how to do it. I want to merge one fleet with another. I know how to separate individual units into new fleets but can't figure out how to combine fleets. Thanks!

You can't combine air units with naval units. Also you can't combine more than 4 air units together

No, no I meant separately. Air with air, naval with naval. Say for example I have 3 destroyers in a single fleet, 2 battleships and one carrier in a fleet, etc. I want to merge those two. But I cannot figure out how to do it. I think I did it once by accident but I can't recall how to do it again. And I really need to. Germany & Japan are on the march!

Step 1: Select all units you want to merge.
How to: Select one ship. Hold Shift, draw a box around the ships you want to select. Same with air units, too.

Step 2: De-Select all ships/aircraft you DON'T want to merge.
How to: Hold Shift, left-click on the units in the selected units list on the left screen side.

Step 3: Press the Merge button at the bottom of the selected units list. Note that you can only merge units in the same location. Transports need to be empty.

See that's just it. I've read just what you've said in the manual. But maybe I'm in the wrong screen.

I see the button to create new fleet but is there a way to tell which ships are in what fleet then be able to select them to assign to another? This game is a bit*ch! I've had it for a year not playing it because I knew it would fry my brain. :D

Oh ok I think I may have it now. You click the base to pull up the assorted fleets. Then pick a fleet, shift, left click to encircle it then find a fleet to assign it to? Or something like that?

In your pic you did not draw a box around all ships, you just clicked the harbour to select one single fleet. Starting from the situation in the screenshot, do the following:

Hold Shift. Move the cursor a fair bit to the upper left side. Press down the mouse button, hold it, move the cursor to the lower right side. A box should appear. Try to have the whole harbour within the boundaries of the box. Release the mouse button, release the shift key. You will now have selected multiple naval units. If they are all in the same location, you can just click merge. If not, or if you want to only merge a few, hold Shift key again and left-click on any fleet which you don't want - the list of fleets will be where you can now see individual ships in your screenshot. After you've limited your selection to what you really want to select, click the merge button. That one will be right next to the "create new fleet" button. :)

This is not written in such detail for offense, I just want to make absolutely clear what I was meaning with my earlier advise. :)
