Hi everyone,

to be honest I'm still trying to get a grip on the game mechanics. So bear with me even if this turns out to be a noob question...

As far as I understand from Meneth's In-Depth Guide to Crusader Kings using your flanks should give you an advantage in warfare.

"When a flank no longer has an equivalent flank to attack, it will help another flank instead. It will now also get a flanking bonus of 10%, meaning it does 10% more morale and troop damage. The enemy flank will now be under attack from two flanks, thus taking considerably more damage, and will thus usually be rapidly eliminated from combat."

So I go ahead and raise my levies and because I need the manpower I draw them together on one county. This gives me more than the 3 armies for the left & right flank and the center. How do these additional armies come into play? Will they be automatically added to a flank? Do they wait?

In order to group multiple armies into the flanks I would like to see the merged into 3 armies of my liking. I seem to be unable to do this ingame once all armies are in one county as i am not able to select certain two armies and merge them into one. So I will have to move the armies I want to merge to a separate county, merge them there and move the new merged army back to where I need it? Is there another way to do this I just fail to see?

Maybe I'm overthinking this aspect but somehow this bothers me... ;-)

Any ideas on this?

When you place 3-5 armies in a province, and they engage in combat, they automatically make One army... From what I understand, the merging of armies is to reduce attriction and make a stronger force under one banner...
So, the whole left, right and middle is all in the combat sequence, when your units are divided up, depending if you have men enough...

If you want to only merge two of your several armies, for some reason, select them all, and unclick those you don't want...

But it seems you Are over thinking a lot... Gather your levies in the armies you want, merge them, and send them to war...
In my experience, there really aint much you can do when you are in combat... The game has already made the best choices for you, divided the armies for you into flanks and so on... Just like your council in the beginning of the game already is best of their kind...
The Combat is such a small part of this game, and though you have some personal things you can add to this, I find it is best to just make it as simple as possible for yourself, ecpesically if you still fight to understand the game aspects... :)

If you click on the right "arrow" where the number of soldiers of each type are, you can see what armies are in each front and reorganize them if you want.

For example, if you have 3 equal armies of 500 men and one army of 50 men, when merged you will get 3 fronts: 2 of them with 500 men and one of them with 550 men.

Left click drag to select army then you are able to combine which units you like. Weird that I had to randomly discover this and that there isn't more ways to do this.
