Merging and linking to a Steam account

I have just spent ages working on this. My old account seems to be deactivated. I've made a new one. I bought BattleTech from Steam and just want to play it multi-player. Can I skip merging and just play with the current account but link it to Steam? The log-in names and passwords are different. Does that even matter?

How do I link this to Steam and do I even need that? Im asking not because I read that things can do bad if done wrongly. I've already created three Paradox accounts while trying to fix this.

We can look into your old account if you wish, please lodge a ticket at paradox.zendesk.com if so.

You can also lodge account deletion tickets there from the excess accounts.

Paradox accounts cannot be merged with each other.
