Mercs auto-disbanding when loading save

As in title - when I load a save and advance a day, my mercenary company disbands on its own without me doing anything. It's happened on multiple occasions, but this instance is particularly annoying as they were in the middle of a siege. Looks to be sufficient manpower and good morale so I don't think it's those. I've tried reloading (like 50 times) and it always happens, without fail, at this save point. But not always at other save points.

Am I missing something?

when you load a save, your provinces' autonomy is sometimes lower than it should be (territories on 50%, etc), and the game probably thinks your economy is good enough to get larger merc stacks, which apparently disbands your active forces

Of course. That actually makes sense - I think it happened once near the end of my last game, when the revolution was screwing with autonomy everywhere.

Any ideas on potential workarounds? Don't save at the beginning of the month?
