Mercotransaction ?

Hello,

Small question as I'm sure I'm missing something there : when trying to get the Mercotransaction achievement, I manage to create a mercenary, but, as I understood, for the achievement to trigger, that he's supposed to bring back some gold, I don't hire him myself but wait for him to be hired by others, so that I gain back part of what he's paid for.

The thing is that, after multiple attempts in different games, he's never hired, whether he's well equiped and armed in mens (and then expensive to hire for others), or cheap and poorly equiped.

Am I just unlucky as he's never hired, or did I completely misunderstood the achievement and should I hire him ? Then if so, how would he bring back gold ?

You are indeed in Ironman, without mods, and without a custom character ?

No, it works when they are hired by somebody else. Beyond that point ... well my experience was it was only a couple of years at most before my first mercenary band was hired, which triggers the achievement so it comes down to the things Audoucet lists (Ironman, checksum YZAZ ...). (Beyond that, cheaper bands are more likely to be hired, so no need to spend money on them until the achievement fires.)

ok. So, unlucky so far then. (and yes, of course, I was in Ironman and else. Issue wasn't that the achievement didn't trigger but only that my merc was never hired by anyone. I managed in the last attempt to finally get Sword to Ploughshare, who triggered fine, so just unluck I guess
