Bear with me for a moment...
So, before Emperor and 1.30, the events that penalized army professionalism were much more common. You know the ones I'm talking about: take a hit to army professionalism or have a huge chunk of your manpower blown away. It's been fixed, or so it seems, as those don't pop up nearly as often.
Why I'm bringing that up? Well, I've been playing a series of runs with Lübeck and from what I see, negative events from republics pile up on negative events from factions with uncanny consistency, and the result is that I get shafted by pop-ups very, very frequently: The Inner Circle, Noble Plot, A Beneficial Transaction, A New Coin, Division in the council, etc.
Maybe it's just me, but I get the feeling that the event pool for merchant republics is rather filled with bad events and they fire up way more than with monarchies. Between that and the fact that the factions mechanic really got behind in the power curve compared to the new estates and even pairlament, I think they could use some love.
