Hi all,

I made a mod where Nobles I invited though Decision was from my dynasty, now I'm wondering if I can mod Merchant Republic creation to pick from my dynasty when choosing Patricians.

I found this section in realm_decisions.txt and settlement_decisions.txt

And my first thought was to change NOT = { dynasty = none } to dynasty = FROM but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Thoughts?

FROM would be the decision taker for a Targeted or Settlement decision, but not a Realm decision, since the latter only involves one entity.
I see what your saying.
I'm still not getting it to work though. How the game creates or chooses Patriarchs seems a bit mysterious to me so I don't know if this change of code actually does anything?

I can look at the details when I get home, but I have modded it with a new decision requiring 4 tributaries that made the new partrician houses based of your tributaries. However, it created new characters instead of using existing ones. Still should be workable, though.

I think I found the problem - The scope the vassals are created in is "any_unique_dynasty_vassal", which only gives one character per dynasty, but by changing NOT = { dynasty = none } to dynasty = 4, you are requiring it to find 4 characters of the same dynasty, which isn't possible.

You could replace any_unique_dynasty_vassal with any_vassal, though I'm not sure how well merchant republics will handle multiple families of the same dynasty, especially if two of them end up with the same heir. You may also need to use some way of simulating cadet branches to make them separate dynasties. I think either CK2+ or HIP has a feature like that, though I haven't tried either yet.

No change. My modding hasn't actually effected anything this whole time which is a bit weird. You'd think my bad code should have broken something at one point. There isn't any any way to test the decisions in the same way as 'testevent'?

The game have chosen two existing characters and created two new ones. But I haven't found any code for how the game generates new Patricians. I would expect it too look something like the code for the employ_steward decision but searching the the files for appropriate Merchant Republic phrases haven't yielded anything relevant so far.

I just tried save-editing and the four previous Patricians ceased being Patricians and the game generated new ones. There simply can not be two Patricians from the same Dynasty in a given Republic. It all makes perfect sense of course.

That's probably it - two families can't have the same family.

You may want to look at how CK2+ and GOT have set up Cadet dynasties and do something along those lines. That could give you 5 families that represent different branches of the same dynasty.

It was my thought also, but I'll take a break from this silly project for some other silliness for a while.
