These guys are so annoying. I'm playing Brittany and have most of it Norman, but one county is Breton, and I think that's keeping alive the Breton band. Their leader keeps picking fights with my family and killing them and there's nothing I can do about it. Intrigue doesn't let me spy on him, and most of the time they are old elects that I can't duel... not that I would necessarily want to without save scumming, because they usually have good stats for it. Any plots will never reach the plot power to mean anything. The current leader has killed one of my sons and wounded another so far. Every time they do that, they become my rival and likely make it a point to do it more often to my family.

How do you get rid of these bastards?

OK, well first off I don't believe you can "kill" a Merc band - even if the official culture flips that won't remove the Band or destroy the title. They're the Band from Brittany, not the Breton cultural Band.

So that's not an option.

OK, well first off I don't believe you can "kill" a Merc band - even if the official culture flips that won't remove the Band or destroy the title.

Even worse! If a merc captain dies while at war personally, such as a "claim" war started when the paying ruler fails to make payments, half the time the war will stay active in a bugged state until the game is restarted.

Merc Captains are slightly broken (as well as useless to the player) at the moment. Best bet is to hope the leader dies and his successor doesn't want to continue the practice of killing your family members.

You could hire them for your wars and send them into mayhems so the captain hopefully finds his end or ends up in captivity.

Or you could not, because the game doesn't let you hire mercenaries you are beefing with.

Merc bands hold their culture and religion throughout the game, with the exception of the Varagnians. Only holy orders can change religion, and the have a mandate culture (Which I do not think applies to the first leader).

They also have a nasty habit of causing your females to elope with them.
And this is why I like Cognatic succession. NO more daughters running of with mercenary bands.

How do you get rid of these bastards?
I have no idea, but if you want to escape this particular band, move your capital out of Brittany.
Then you just have to deal with a new one.

Well, that's natural, isn't it? Most adventure films include an aristocrat lass getting charmed by dashful adventurer of the Burt Lancaster/Errol Flynn format and fleeing with him. He is so much sexier than effeminated boring courtiers doing nothing than intrigues.
