Since the last dev diary has included how you are changing the mercenary system, I think this will be a good opportunity to raise some suggestions for further (relatively small) additions to the military system.

First off, event mercenaries. By mostly playing M&T I've discovered two wonderful things: unit types can have requirements beyond the "unit tech group". i.e. you can have "Longbowmen" which requires at least one province within the "England" region, and you can have "French Knights" which require the French culture, and "Swiss Pikemen" which requires that you are the tag "Switzerland".
This is amazing, and I don't assume this will be "turned off", so here I'm basically just praising Paradox, even if it's delayed.

The second thing I found out, was that these units would be available as mercenary regiments. I don't know the exact mechanics of how these units are made available as mercenary regiments in the current system, but I know that I can play as Brabant and have available as mercenaries both Longbowmen only available as a unit type to countries with English provinces, and Welsh Longbowmen which requires the country to have English as it's primary culture.

While this also opens up for amazing possibilities, this is in quite a bit more danger of being "turned off" since the new mercenaries update with your unit type*.

How to keep the possibilities for hiring mercenaries you can't have as standing forces, while still keeping the improved "Mercenaries use your own unit types" system? Personally I'd prefer some way to have events spawn mercenary regiments of a specific unit type. Allowing you to select different unit types for standing army and mercenary regiments could also be a way, but I'd think it would require more coding on Paradox's part.

That's the mercenaries out of the way, what about combat statistics? First off I'd like to suggest two new infantry and cavalry statistics similar to the "Bonus Durability" for ships, in the form of "Infantry Armor" and "Cavalry Armor". They would be a defensive version of the "Combat Ability" Infantry and Cavalry can get right now, improving their ability to take damage rather than deal it as Combat Ability does.

Secondly, some way to differentiate the Combat Ability/Discipline/Armor of mercenaries from that of standing forces would be nice. Splitting up everything into "Standing Regiment bonuses" vs "Mercenary bonuses" would be far too extreme, so something more all-encompassing like only introducing "Mercenary Discipline" would be a bit more sensible.

Hopefully there are someone who aren't bored by this wall of text, and optimally someone from Paradox sees the potential these changes can hold for the game.

*BTW, also praising Paradox for this change. I've written about it before, and even if no dev have ever seen any post I've made on the subjects, it's still awesome you've implemented it.
