Megathread : Purchasing a boxed copy (Amazon, Brick & Mortar Stores etc)

After reading the France AAR thread, it came to my attention that a .pdf of the map is shipped with the game which is really piquing my interests. Depending on the quality, I may be able to go to my local printers and get the map printed just the way I want it! I am leaning more and more in favour of the gamersgate optionbecause of all the added advantages. I may still pick the boxed copy up just to have something tangible and to support Paradox (let's see who else will shave their hair!)

I'm just curious for those who have pre-ordered through GamersGate though and have the online map - is the .pdf file good quality? How big can I make this poster before the quality will begin to suffer?? Would I be better off with a boxed copy and not trying to print it out?

It is 964,8 mm x 419,7 mm.

No. It's a preorder bonus from GG only.

You could try amazon, but I think they don't dispatch games to here. If they do, it is quite simple, provided you pay the import tax: the package will be held at the post office and you will get a mail telling how much the tax is and where you can retrieve the game.

Paradox has no control and little influence over what distributors will buy the game and which companies they then sell it too
So paradox doesn't know which stores will sell it, if you go in and ask, they'll know.

IIRC (I don't live in the US) Paradox has a deal with Target to exclusively sell boxed copies of their games within Target stores, so you may be in luck.

On another board Johan said the game would be widely available in the US, but as of right now I've seen no evidence of it. The official thread above doesn't list any US brick and mortar retailers at all. In fact, the only US options it lists are GamersGate (digital) and Amazon. I've checked various US retailers, and right now no one lists the game: not Steam, not Target, not Best Buy, not WalMart, not GameStop. That pretty much covers the gamut.

That situation may change in the next two weeks, of course, but right now anyone thinking of buying the game in the US should probably be looking at whether Amazon or GamersGate are their best option.

I'm sure it'll become more noticeable in the coming weeks. I bought both EU3 Complete and EU Rome at Best Buy, and saw HOI3 there.

Amazon still thinks that the release date is the 22nd. King said that the issue might be restocking, but Amazon said that that's not the issue, and need to hear from the manufacturer b/c they don't know about the 13th being the release date. Uhh...
