Without casting any aspersions (because they are neither warranted nor helpful), it seems pretty clear to me that the code base was locked for release weeks ago and that they have been working hard for the past few weeks to finish up / fix any bugs. They probably felt the release build was stable enough for release, but quickly accelerated the timeline for the first hotfix when the community disagreed.
Should the release have been delayed? In retrospect, maybe, but I assume that is what Johan was referring to in the changes to the production process in the since deleted post from this morning (assuming it was real, I didn’t see the original post and only saw a post with the supposed text).
I do think people are underestimating the impact that on-boarding a new team and ramping up production during a global pandemic had on development this year, and we should really be giving the developers some more slack. Johan was very honest in his last dev diary about these issues and the direction of EU4 moving forward, and I for one appreciate his stated approach. EU5 will come eventually, but I look forward to the continued support of EU4 for the time being.
Thanks for the hard work, Paradox Tinto!
