Who the hell gives Art of War a downvote, and why? It's arguably one of the best things to happen to EU4! But I agree that the recent trend EU4 has taken is utterly wrong.

Emperor was a good exception from this, Emperor was great. But that one aside, every DLC be it flavour packs, or expansions since Mandate of Heaven was just "here's a government button to press every X-years. Also here are some government reforms, that give you 10% tax income. Oh and here's a pointless misson tree, because they are popular in HoI4, but without their depth.

Again, Emperor was great, a refreshing change from the trend, but compare Leviathan to Emperor. How is Leviathan an "expansion"? to me it's more of free-patch content, or a flavour pack at max.
For all it is, it's way overpriced, and I normally don't say this. After the whole bug debacle, I have even refunded the DLC to buy it when it's cheaper. Again I normally don't do this, but man...

Most DLCs of most games have at best mixed reviews. Gamers just don't like paying a lot of money even if the content is worth it ( and especially if they feel it isn't)

And a lot of these aren't even about DLC features, but about patch ones, like Dharma, which got severely review bombed for it's patch trying to rebalance religious conversions ( and a few other things)

Eh, if you read through the actual reviews about 40% of negative ones are solely bashing the DLC policy, another 35% are bashing stuff that was actually in the free patch not the DLC, and another 10% include one or both of those with some minor criticism of the actual DLC.

This is why I stopped checking Steam Reviews in general. They have become a tool for haters and trolls, and are rarely ever used by people who like games.
When I want an honest opinion, I google reddits and such. But of course, if you want to make a critical post then using sources like this is the cheapest way to create an image that you are right.

As for this DLC, Leviathan was developed as the game transitions from experienced PDS developer to newly recruited Tinto developers. I didn't check yet how well the patch is doing, but I was not expecting anything ambitious (DDs made it clear this is more of a very big ROTW content pack than an actual mechanical expansion) and I'll be very surprised if it was less buggy than average.

The game has released in an unacceptable stage. The amount of bugs is a disgrace. The expansion is overpriced.

This should be pretty obvious.

It should also be stated that given the available bandwidth of moderating (not much) any of the latter will warrant removal of a post, even if it includes the former. Seriously, we don't have time to go in a cut out the bad stuff in an otherwise legitimate post, it's just going to get nuked. Like there's one or two of us on at a time. And most of us are volunteers. I'm typing this between sending emails for my actual work.

Aside from agreeing with the OP, I would like to add that we really do not need a few dozens of complain threads. It would be better if people would continue ongoing threads.

It's a balance - too many threads on one subject will usually warrant a megathread, but one "all your complaints here" thread is going to quickly spiral out of control.

Another sign is that simple things aren't fixed:

Forexample the randomized new world's rare designs don't use the new assets. The Ancient Egyptian colony uses the Egyptian culture instead of Old Egyptian.
And Vinland is christian.

Those are easy fixes, and the Norse religion and Old Egyptian culture came out after the Randomized new world but you could still take a moment to fix it!

CK2 converter religions are still not in even if it's an easy port.

Then you have the massive spans of 8-9 months before releases, and the releases are quite buggy.
I get the feeling that Eu4 is maintained by a skeleton crew.

I find funny all the people thinking that CK3 is great (at launch). Between de AI mass seduce (not even counting the bugs with the retroactive cuckholding) which was already an issue in CK2, the total lack of strategic depth from buildings, the arbitrary county map (with so many wrong locations) and the fact that you could basically do whatever you wanted once you got to 100 dread (just keep people around to execute) and go full NK in a way that was so much more profitable and easy than in ck2 and all the things that started to show after a few hours in the game.

CK3 had nice events (like CK2) and 3D portraits + pretty map which I guess is the only thing that really mattered to the people who play it.

Now i'm glad that these things are going to get fixed/redone overtime and I trust the devs to do it, but its pretty funny when people say its great comparing to stellaris/imperator (imperator at launch was in a better state than CK3 but people were dreaming too much of their perfect rome simulator to actually read what was in de DD's) or even EU4.

The new mechanics are completely overpowered and I personally feel that putting even more dev in polynesian islands that weren't even colonized during the time period is a waste of dev time, but I'm not going to say EU4 is bad game because of that. It's great but it has been so much iterated upon that by now each update just brings even more and more problems.

Here's hoping dev on EU5 has already started (or design at least) and I'll get to play in a few years what masterpiece (yes they are, whatever their faults and how much we like to complain these games are still games we've spent hundreds of hours of fun on) they feel confident to release.

Idk, maybe people are giving positive reviews because they actually like what they get with Leviathan. And why in the right mind are the players trolls for giving a positive review? I get it that there are trolls who like anything, whether it is broken or not, but there are honest players who simply like content they get with this DLC. Have that ever come to your mind?

Check the reviews I quoted. Some people genuinely enjoy it and good for them, but a significant number of positive reviews are like this one I quoted:

BjornBs reply was as if these issues, some so obvious that even loading the countries that Leviathan were sold on should reveal them, were unknown to Paradox. When people legitimately think they're getting a wrong version, noting down bugs to fix is extremely discouraging, exactly because it means this version was the planned one (Albeit presumably sans all the bugs and placeholder art). That was what I tried to say. I won't and don't suggest that Paradox lies about the wrong version.
