How about Paradox actually gets all the REAL nations in first, and then worries about imaginary countries?

One can presume that they already have all of the REAL nations in the game. This thread is about nations which did not exist in the time period but which players would like to see in the game.

Taiping Heavenly Kingdom is a fine name since that is the English translation most often used. I mean by your logic, if you're going to translate everything from Chinese directly, then 'China' should be called 'Middle Country', Tokyo would be called 'Eastern Capital', and the United States would be called 'Beautiful Country'.

1) 美国 does not actually mean 'beautiful country', any more than the other Chinese names used for foreign countries (英国,法国,德国,非洲, etc.) have any meaning, instead it is short for 美理利坚合众国.

2) Calling it 'Taiping Heavenly Kingdom' is the same as calling China 'The Chinese Empire' - accurate, but some what missing the point. Hopefully Vicky will feature countries whose names change with their ideology (Hence the UK should be able to shift names if it becomes a republic).

I wish they named the UK "Great Britain" instead.

Because "United Kingdom" is the title of the country, not the country's name (which is why we call them British, and not Unitedkingdomniers). The country's name was "Great Britain and Ireland" or, alternatively, "Great Britain-Ireland". Great Britain could be used for short.

Just a thought, but how about how VIP handled Africa with a bunch of nations that (and I could be wrong here) didn't exist. But then, you would also obsolete this if you just fiddle with the colonial systems.

Other than that, I don't really know. Just giving us the ability to easily mod in countries would be nice enough. Then you could have mods to slice up France and Britain and such. So yeah...

....They should add a small easter egg nation, just for the fun of it. Hardly any work too. :p

It is the country name. Short name, to be more specific, full name is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It has been formed by The Act Of Union 1800. So the name UK is correct.

However I agree it should vary depending on form of governement. I'm not sure how all this alternative names could be implemented, maybe the easiest way is simply let player manualy edit name of state? It would also sort out the problem of "greatest everynation" (like Germany when annected entire Europe etc.)

I've dealt with a similar suggestion in my thread "Custom Nationalism", albeit from a social perspective. I think we're ready for in-game editing tools :)

Not ahistoric, but the African states that exist at the end of EU3 should be included in Victoria 2, and a few that rose to power after 1820. Vicky 1 had sub-Saharan Africa woefully underrepresented in terms of states that the Europeans would have to interact with (Sokoto, Ethiopia, Zulu, Zanzibar and Madagascar were the only ones in).

Pre-European conquest Nineteenth century sub-Saharan Africa was much more dynamic than what Victoria 1 sugggests :

-The Tukulor jihad that would overwhelm Segu and Masina and create an empire running from the Senegal to Timbuktu
-Samori's Mande empire that kept the French at bay for nearly 20 years
-the thirty+ years of conflict between France and the Wolof for dominance in the Lower Senegal
-the fate of the Asante with its new British neighbors
-the struggles between the mfecane states in Southern Africa after Shaka's death that would lead to powerful states like Gaza Nguni and the Ndebele
-the struggles between the British, Boers and African kingdoms of the Sotho and Xhosa.
-The civil war for the crown of Abyssinia between Shoa and Tigray.
-The struggles between Borno and Sokoto for influence in eastern Hausaland.
-the rise of Buganda to dominance in the Lake Victoria Nyanza region, making it the target to reach for the British, Germans and French in their struggles for influence in East Africa
-the response of the Lunda states of the Upper Zambezi to the arrival of first Swahili condottieri (such as Msiri who created a powerful state in Katanga at their expense) and then the struggle between Portugal and Britain for influence over the region

and I could go on from there.

So before we go to crazy into Ahistorics, perhaps a bit of a reconsider on some of the historic states left out in V1 should also be considered, especially if, as I would love to see, the civilizing process in V2 takes some ideas from the EU3 system of tech research for administration and governance.

Even better, from Magna Mundi.

Civilizing process in MM mod is absolutely fantastic and great game of its own - and it covers many more shades of "being civilized" then vanilla EU3:IN.

The country title is part of the "full name", but it is still that, a title. You don't go around calling "Germany" "Federal Republic", instead of the country's name.

On the topic, I suppose OHgamer's suggestions are good ones, we definitely need a few more States outside Europe and the Americas. But to represent struggles against non-organized States, in my opinion it would be better to do something like giving "nationalism" revolt risk to POPs that have been recently colonized (and by "colonized" I mean claiming a colony in an area that has no country established). I find them to be too pacific in V1, they shouldn't be that way, even if the land wasn't taken from an established State.

.

Great Britain and the UK are NOT the same thing. Great Britain is PART of the UK. Calling UK in the game "Great Britain" would be about the same as calling unified Germany "Prussia".

Anyway, if the names in the game can be customized as I suggested you can call UK "Great Britain", "England" or even "Suzie" if it makes you happy.

Vaul, +1 about in-game editor, I agree 100%. I used to edit most of my savegames in Vic anyway, changing states etc.

OGH: I agree; to be honest I don't remember when I played vanilla last time - usually I use VIP, where all the African countries are in.

Why? Once they took over Ireland they became the UK. This is just a fact. Should they lose Ireland they'd probably get called GB again.
The Act of Union of 1707 that united Scotland with England created the United Kingdom of Great Britain. With or without any part of Ireland, the UK remains the UK.

As much as possible

My idea of having a few more tags for countries is a bit different, than what I've seen so far. Although Euskadi, Colombia, etc seem historical and/or plausible, I would like to take another route.

Let's say if I play Germany and defaet the French, I should be able to demand that they create a border state (much like Vichy later) The name is actually of second importance to me. Even if the new state stays in the sphere of influence of France (possibly a vassal or satellite) it would weaken the French state enough to make it a viable option.

There could be a multitude of nations in the game, since I think every culture should have their right of a nation. Even it is implausible or ahistorical. Why, if I play Austria, do I need to hang on to these Croatians or Rhuthenians, or the two provinces with Ukrainians, which just give me high militancy and are a headache in the long run. Why can't I swap them (provided they are not cores) or if no-one wants 'em, or I don't want give them away, can make them independent?

Only the Austrian Empire alone could consist of:

1. Bohemia, 2. Bukovina, 3. Carinthia, 4. Carniola, 5. Dalmatia, 6. Galicia, 7. Küstenland, 8. Lower Austria, 9. Moravia, 10. Salzburg, 11. Silesia, 12. Styria, 13. Tyrol, 14. Upper Austria, 15. Vorarlberg;
16. Hungary proper 17. Croatia-Slavonia 18. Bosnia and Herzegovina

Plus on top of that, I would really argue, that, if I create a country, or satelite, I should be able to tell, which provinces they get, and which not.

I like all of your suggestions, but this one takes the prize ;)

AYE! With an addition that the culture in the province gets a majority of the culture being granted territorial sovereignty. Think of it as a migration. The former cultural majority may get increased militancy as well, being immigrated by a brand new nation more or less against their will
