Last time I played conquest as a megacorp (granted, it was 2.2.2 before western xmas) I was forsed to take status quo because beating the entire federation was too tedious, and I conquered all planets of relevance anyway. Status quo tooltip said that a vassal empire would be created from conquered planets. SO I though I would get a nice subsidiary to build branch offices I used for science

Wrong. Oh, I got a subsidiary alright. With corporate authority. So I couldn't open a branch office on its planets.

I guess I see where it comes from, as empires from "liberation wars" usually get same authority and ethics as the ones of the "liberator" but it is goddamn disappointing as the whole point was to get more branch offices.

Those who played 2.2.3, was that fixed? And what would be a proper fix anyway?

The whole thing needs to be fixed. You can't even open branch offices in subsidiaries even if they are regular empires and not corporate.
Like what the hell. Why is the unique selling point of corporations so hard to play with ?

I definitely remember that I could open branches as a syndicate.
Something is weird with conditions.

Uh, unless something's working very differently from the test_branch release, this is absolutely false considering this is how I opened every branch office in my slaver Megacorp.

Ugh, I couldn't.
The entire federation was weak, but large, I would hit war exhaustion forced status quo before conquering enough planets. Besides, I didn't have a subjugation CB on other members.

For some reason my target's capitol was extempt from status quo, remaining as independent in the federation, which probably triggered the whole mess in the first place, but I think even if subjugation status quo generates a new empire for legitimate reason, it should never get megacorp authority or at least their sovereign should be able to open branch offices in it regardless of authority, Otherwise it doesn't make sense.

You can become normal empire make normal vasal and then switch back to being MagaCorp after 10 years. But it can hit your economic: different ruler jobs, different unity building, ... Also by doing this you can have Imperial Privaliges as MegaCorps

Really? When I tried it told me I needed to have a commercial agreement with them. Maybe it changed in 2.2.3

I agree that liberation wars are really weak for megacorps, because you *never* want your subsidiaries to be other megacorps. You can't open branch offices on other megacorps (which maybe you *should* be able to I think?).
