Soooo can I unfix the hotfix? I have a broken save with this close getting Trusworthy and 5/8 monuments at rank 3.
Please do tell how
EDIT: I found out how. Doesn't help, tho. The save is lost. At least for now?

Here you go, both are corrupted. If you manage to fix this you deserve at leas 1% of the profits for this dlc...
So, in conclusion, we might as well wait for further hotfixes before starting a run. It might be time for an approval prompt to be implemented prior to automatic patching, rather than having to revert the game afterwards. No one can be certain saves will not be irretrievably corrupted after a patch.

At this point I'm wondering whether management pissed somebody off so hard they're intentionally doing this. Like, Leviathan is currently the lowest rated item on Steam ever... and it's followed up with a hotfix that literally breaks save files.
Like... the only way to top this, would be to accidentally delete their DB and remove the game from everyone's account or something.

So what exactly causes the bug and when would I need to edit a save file to not lose it? A few friends and me are planning to start an MP game after a long break from EU4 this weekend and I don't want the save to blow up a few hours in. That would probably kill everyone's motivation for another 9 months.
I know that it is possible for the save files to pretty much empty themselves which would obviously make them unrecoverable. Does loading a save that has the problematic extra bracket in it cause that?
So should I make a backup of a save before loading it and if the map is empty, search the file for the bracket?

Holy crap, fixing this did just restore my save, which previously was giving the totally blank map, and instantly going to Quit screen when trying to load.
Also, the error was on the exact same state (ostra_svealand), and was only present on that one line, although the cooldown date referenced was different.
Many thanks for this find, just restored about 8 hours of gameplay!

In my opinion this should definitely unlock the 'Post WW3' achievement.
Paradox most have been planning on this.
Something similar happened to me as well. 2 of my ironman saves corrupted out of nowhere with both of the games being around 1500. Pretty sure it's not a problem with my game since I redownloaded it and it still happened and I'm not running any mods.

And yet again guys, I started new campaign with Theodoro, didn't bird, didn't click 'continue game' button and my save got corrupted on the next day irl in 1524, but previous day my save worked well, so what can cause this THING besides 'continue game'?
It's caused by certain countries using concentrate development and their ID Code confusing the save into breaking its formatting, so when you next load the save it declares it unloadable.
