Technically it could be possible to play 9 or 10 players in MP, with a little file editing... depending if the shields fit on screen.

Really? That would be so great. What is required?

Actually, 9 shields fit, if you add a 9th entry to the header of the scenariofile.

However, I've never really tested it, but the code looks like it could handle it.

I'm satisfied that I saved as much as I could of Austria, as well as weakening France.

Even if Prussia can be a future thorn in my side, they are a much better balance versus France than anything else.

I'm not gonna mention who it was.. But one of France's "allies" was completely funding my mercenaries and privateers. :)

Johan,

It could not have been fun being the sacrificial lamb so to speak. As it is, Austria currently is in possession of only two provinces more then what I wanted her to have. (Granted, this was after the fourth revision and only if Austria made the agreement without putting up a fight). There is no doubt plenty of tribulation left for Austria to endure,

To BiB and Ulver,

Shame on you both.

The Austrian forces were fully backed by Spanish money. 6K ducats paid for quite a lot of mercenaries, and prolonged the war by two years.

Turkey wanted France to give up Venice as a vassal and Holland kept asking for Kleves to be freed from France.

My primary goal is for Austria to survive.
The secondary goal, which I must do, is to oppose french expansion in Germany and Italy.

The previous rulers of Austria used deceit to try to achieve this goal.

After being humbled, and fleeing the palaces of Vienna to hide in the misty mountains of Ruthenia during the french occupation, we've come to the conclusion that Austria MUST be honest and play with open cards to survive.

Austria have a treaty obligation to Russia and will keep that one.

We are grateful to Spain for their loan, and will repay it, even if we have to pawn the crown jewels.

Well, since you hadn't been draining the mercenary pool, having recruited cavalry, I guess it went like this.

1) Spain forwarded Austria a monstrous loan

2) Austria went on a click-fest draining the mercenary pool, gaining 100K+ troops, mostly infantry but with a smattering of cavalry and artillery. (If the pool was full, he could have gained rather more)

3) Austria fought valiant battles...In mountains, marshes &etc versus France's superior cavalry armies - staying the hell out of plains.

4) Austria desperately hired the new mercenary band at the beginning of each month.

5) Prinz Eugen got the largest army for his amusement and went around crushing French armies. At +5 fire his infantry should be capable of dealing serious damage if he stacked 80K or so with a bunch of cavalry.

This summed up my battle plan pretty much..

And I also hired endless amount of privateers off the french coasts to blockade his trade, and reduce his manpower capabilities.

It all worked fine until Prinz Eugene with 50/30/20 got caught in Magdeburg by 120k french troops from two directions and got annihilated.

From that moment on, I could only play defensively, letting the french armies bleed, while I controlled Tyrolia/Steiermark and the Silesia/Carpathia areas with large infantry/artillery armies.

Johan, I am willing to conclude peace and neutrality with you so long as there is a royal marriage and that the total amount of Austrian armed forces does not excede 150k at any one time without a specific agreement for any specific reason to do so. Otherwise, the sole purpose would just be building up to try and attack France again.

We can agree to a royal marriage.
And we will limit our forces to 150K, unless we are at war with Prussia, Poland or Turkey. (Our other strong neighbours, which we can not show weakness too.)

However, with the subject of expanding against the surrounding AI out of the way...

If Austria keeps her army below 150k, France will make a solemn vow to DoW any who might seek to war against her, such as the Ottoman Empire. Immediately with the full weight of the French Empire. With the knowledge that Austria is willing to put aside a fourth surprise-invasion of France, France would then recognize her eastern neighbour not as an ally, but as worthy of existing so to speak...and would not tolerate a declaration of war by any other power against it.

Austria is willing sign this treaty, and invites France to guarantee the independence of Hannover, Prussia, Hessen and Bavaria.

No, I meant player vs player relations.

I suspect England and Holland did not like me at all for the pirateers outside their coast.

The bad thing is that you get 1-4 random ships, so only 25% chance that you can get enough pirates to blockade.. Its merely a harassment strategy, but if your enemy lack a real fleet, you can hurt him.

It is no secret that Spain is pretty disgusted by both Austria and Russia and, consequently, has decided to refrain from running any more political risks opposing France on their behalf.

Austria declared war in Spanish support.
And signed peace with France AFTER Spain and France had negoitated a peace.

We also signed a much harsher peace than Turkey was forced to sign with France.

Gave up 4 rich german vassals, and ceded Anshalt to Bavaria.

Austria gained two things from following french dictates.

* A port on the adriatic.
* French protection, as we are at their mercy.

Bump everyones inflation by 0.1% for each province every 10 years.

So a 200 province Spain gets 20% inflation extra every ten years.
