This only means your fleet is to small and your science is too slow. You mismanage your economy.

Fleet is cap (with almost all station with anchorage and the +5 station from AP) and I'm at peace, I guess I could change all my alloy to research center but my research is already really high and I usually use ecunopolis for alloy production which can't be changed to science, most tech take less than 40 month (once I finally got to mega engineer in my last game it took 43 month to research).

I’d prefer if the ascension allowed you to build them infinitely, but everyone can build them a bit. Like, you can only build one at a time and they have an individual 5-50 year cool down, but if you are master builders you can start spamming them to your heart’s content.

I agree
With the relatively easy access to Living Metal one way or another, the edict of +50% megastructure building speed is pretty much available to anyone.

It makes Master Builders pretty much a waste of perk slots since additional +50% building speed is not a useful bonus. Typically you will have to wait anyway to have the amount of alloys to begin/continue construction. And if your alloy generation is that high, you are way to deep into late game :)

I think Master Builders should either allow building multiple megastructures of the same type along with the build speed increase, or it should be a perk that you can pick without Voidborne and Galactic Wonders and would immediately grant you the Mega Engineering option.
At this point this perk seems pretty useless.

Plus I think generally it should also speed up the Ecumenopolis building speed (I think that one is not affected by the megastructure building speed bonuses)

Master Builders needs to be brought out back and shot. The +2 habitat slot should be integrated into the base habitat, they need the love. The build speed needs be made research.
Furthermore, I am more and more of the opinion that the megastructures themselves should be divvied up between many existing ascension perks, and not all bunched up in one perk pick.

Build a habitat, fill it with fortresses and maybe a planetary shield. It gets a FTL inhibitor and is a right pain to invade. Until it is taken. all routes out of the system are locked.

Wait, i remember something about FTL inhibitor going "offline" when Devastation pass 50%. Is this true? Because if it is, the efficiency of "Habitat Fortress" is effectively halved.

Playing with a friend in MP with all expansions and trying to repair a broken megastructure within my empire.

For that however I need the Mega Engineering research. The research option however never shows up. I have researched all prerequisites (Zero Point Energy, Citadel and Battleship), have a broken megastructure in my empire and the researches has Voidcraft expertise. In theory it should show up really easily.

Now, in my previous games I picked Voidborne first, then Master Builders because I relied on having habitats. In this game I do not want any habitats, but it seems that Mega Engineering never shows up unless I pick Master Builders. But I can only pick Master Builders if I have either Galactic Wonders or Voidborne. Galactic Wonders requires Mega Engineering to be researched. See the problem here?

Is Mega Engineering supposed to be so damn rare? I even start to think that my game is bugged, in theory I should have a big chance for it to show up, yet I have completed ~15 technologies since I got the prerequisites and it never showed up

Anyone else having this problem?
Same issue here.
I also though you can "skip" voidborne ascension but I waited for very long time, no avail. If you read the tool-tips of the perks:
A. "Galactic Wanders" requires Mega-Engineering.
B. "Master Builders" enables tech option Mega-Engineering and requires "Voidborne" OR "Galactic Wanders" (which is a nonsense since Galactic Wanders depends on Mega-Engineering which depends on "Master Buiders")

In reality, in a new game, after I opted for "Voidborne", I got the option to research Mega-Engineering, thus at least the tool-tips are wrong. More likely, Mega-Engineering depends on Voidborne (OR Galactic Wanders but nonsense for the above mentioned circular dependency).

You can get mega=engineering without any ascension perks. Each perk doubles the draw weight of the card.

Here's the weighting from the text file:
weight_modifier = {
factor = 0.25
modifier = {
factor = 0.5
NOR = {
research_leader = {
area = engineering
has_trait = "leader_trait_expertise_voidcraft"
}
research_leader = {
area = engineering
has_trait = "leader_trait_curator"
}
research_leader = {
area = engineering
has_trait = "leader_trait_maniacal"
}
}
}
modifier = {
factor = 2
has_ascension_perk = ap_voidborn
}
modifier = {
factor = 2
has_ascension_perk = ap_master_builders
}
modifier = {
factor = 20
has_any_megastructure_in_empire = yes
}
}

In essence, its base weight is 1/4 of a rare tier 4 normal weight and unless the science leader is a curator, maniacal, or voidcraft specialist, halved again.

Each of the 2 perks doubles the weight. So if you have both perks and an appropriate scientist, you're up to the weight of a base tier 4 rare.

The best bonus is if you have a megastructure inside your borders. That increases the weight 20 times.

It is dumb that the Master Builders bonus has never been removed.

Thanks! Then I guess I just had a mega unlucky campaign since I was on repeatable with a voidcraft scientist for 100 years and still was not showing up!

Lol. Good luck if the habitat is running a dozen of the damn things. War exhaustion will force a peace before that happens.
Fortresses don't decrease devastation accumulation, so it takes exactly the same amount of time to get to 50% devastation as a habitat without fortresses. What it does do is give a whole lot more ground forces that your orbital ships need to mop up, and a decently sized fleet on Armageddon Bombardment can kill 1 army every 3 days once devastation hits 100%, and eventually take an uninhabited fortress habitat in a couple more months for an immense boost to fleet cap.

Agreed. Mega Engineering should be unlocked by researching Star Citadel. Megastructures themselves should be unlocked by having Mega Engineering AND an appropriate AP as a side bonus. Example, technological ascendancy for the science installation, enigmatic engineering for sensor array, etc.

I don't think voidborne should be a perk but rather a rare tech unlocked by Star Citadel or something.
