Mediterranean Faces

Having played around with the new dlc for a couple of hours, I will say one thing, while the pre-made faces tend to be weirdly cartoonish, Ive actually seen randomly generated portraits of the new face pack that actually look really nice. The skin color is sill absurd imo, but you learn to live with it.

I've just bought the portrait pack, so here are my first-hand impressions. While some portraits are admittedly quite nice, OrdepNM's above observations are quite accurate. In short, the skin tone is absurd. Also, almost everybody has a tendency towards chubbiness. Many of the portraits are just not adequate for the Mediterranean populaces they are supposed to represent. Southern nobility look like they're working fields in Mesopotamia all day or something along those lines. Some of them barely have an indo-european feel at all. The "weird cartoonishness" is also true and similar to the Russian pack.

I'm ticking it off in the launcher because they change the looks of my king's ancestors that I've been used to looking different. But I'm not sure I will actually put it back on. To tell you what, those guys the way they looked when I actually played them, had the feel of a sleek Italian chico or a noble Roman lady. But when I launched the game with the new portrait pack, well... it just couldn't stand. I hand to relaunch the game without the pack.

For the record, both Italians and even northern Europeans can be as dark as those portraits. But not basically every single one of them. A street in Rome is different from a village in Turkish Kurdistan. And I've been to both.

Just stop trolling please. Must of us are not even that upset about the skincolour when compared to the general quality of the faces. A lot of them looks weird, some just looks silly and i can still not find a single woman that i actually think looks good. And FYI, that was not a problem with the vanilla faces.

How about telling all the racists/nordicists to stop trolling with their pseduo-scientific racism? I'm a troll because I am showing justification for paradox's portrayal of Meds haha. ok good one.

Really, I'm a racist? I have always said Medditenreans can be northern european looking. I'm only trying to show that Medditenreans can also be dark skinned like the paradox portrait pack shows showing there is some justification for the portrayal. That is all I'm doing. You want to try to prove me a racist by what? by me demonstrating the medditenrenas can look dark and exotic? And check the forum again, there are actual southern Italians saying that they are and know other italians as dark as the portrait. The only thing I am proving is that medditenrena europeans can be dark and 'exotic' looking. You want to try to deny that? Try and then we will see who is the racist you nordicist.

Doesn't matter where Im from. It has no bearing on my deductively valid arguement. Don't try to straw man me you nordicist. Medditenrean people can and often do look as dark as the paradox portrait pack. therefore paradox artists have some justification for portraying them like that. SHould every single italian be as dark and have the features as this pack? Obviously no, there are plenty of italians that do not look like that. But still, stop trying to act like no substantial number of europeans can look like that.

I will say this, I made my univeristy degree + masters (total of 5 years, 10 semesters) on erasmus classes (ie classes taught in english mostly tailored to foreign students) so from spanish, italians and greeks, to germans, sweedes and finns, passing through hungarians and ukranians, Ive shared classrooms with at least several people from all corners of europe. In my experience, do you know whats the only good designator of where a person comes from? Height. Skin tells you jack 90% of the time. I'm half portuguese and look preety close to the regular thing, but line me up witn my bulgarian co-worker and hey, same skin tone give or take (btw, the other half is middle eastern, so if anything, I should look even darker). But you can clearly tell she's slavic based on her towering height and I'm latin based on how short (in comparison) I am. Dito for preety much any nationalities, Ive seen a sweede that looked *exactly* like the greek guy standing next to him, only the former was tall as hell, the later not so much (tough greeks do tend to be fairly tall in their own right). I'm not saying height always gives you a right answer, it certainly doesnt, but its far and beyond a better indicator than skintone, which barely changes around europe.

I'll answer that for you, when Hannibal just seems to be throwing around insults and accusations to everyone in this thread, no one had claimed that there weren't any dark complexioned mediterranean people. People have claimed that for the target group, medieval nobles and burghers, that it is too dark a complexion that paradox has chosen if they need to portray the average mediterranean person of that target group and i'm inclined to agree with them.

A lot of Sicilians, South Spaniards, Greeks, South Italians and people from Syria/Turkey region look like folks in this portrait pack (not as fuglly as in game), just go trough few Antropological forums like Biodiversity forum or if you can stomach "who's whiter threads", Apricity

But really Hannibal, why don't you understand we're not talking about a random guy sitting outside of a cafe in Naples?
We're talking about the nobles of the middle ages, who had a lot of German blood; some guy even posted in the forum several pictures and paintings of Spanish and Italian nobles, just a shade darker than the westerngft in CK2 (NOT Orange, NOT brown). This isn't racism, this is history and reality we're talking about. If it's fine to make the Italians look like Persians, why not make the West Africans look like Icelanders?

I don't get it, what does all of this have to do with racism. The portraits are butt ugly, and you can't honestly tell me this looks good.

Also im from the coast of Croatia, and a bit brownish, but im not fucking ORANGE. All of these goddamn faces look like they have skin cancer. I would actually prefer for them to look like arabs because it would be more realistic than this bullshit.
