I get the point about the Visigothic Spaniards, yes -- but that would be more an argument for excluding Spaniards from the facepack rather than changing them all entirely. As for the Italians, aren't most of the dynasties that represent Lombards or Normans given German or Norman culture in the game? I am not knowledgeable enough about northern Italian aristocratic families at the start of the game, but I do know that the Orsini is a native Italian family from Roma and not a Lombard or Norman family.

So to the extent that some families should be paler looking, wouldn't that be better served by I. making them German or II. adding a Lombard Germanic sub-culture (as opposed to a Latin north Italian sub-culture) with Italianate names?

The skin is a bit too dark? Maybe so, maybe not. Overall, new faces are good for variety, and variety is good.

Yes, but you must put variety where it belongs.
Aztecs in Brittany, Ethiopian Miaphysite King-Bishops of Norway, Mongolian Byzantine Emperors. What's next, Australian Aboriginal Sunni HRE?
I understand it's a game, but the unrealism is already a bit...harsh.

The faces are way too dark it looks like andalusians or something. Will Spainiards also be this dark? That wouldn't make any sense.

For me, it's the simple fact that as a Romanophile I basically only play as Italians or Greeks -- so naturally a portrait DLC for them (complete with hats) is the one I want most of all.

You're right, I buy all of them because I like variety in portraits in general but the reason I want this pack in particular is because it applies to the characters I actually play.

While I'm not the guy who made the faces, I can at least tell you all that skin tone is something that we've talked a lot about when we've worked on all the face packs, and we know it's important for cultural flavor. We've been through countless reference-pictures and "average face of [insert country/culture]"-images Still, I think you can all agree with me that it's also impossible to please everyone's opinion on this : )

Glad to hear that a lot of you appreciate the pack thou, and as I've said before, your best work is always the next thing when you work with graphics ;)

Yes the Russian Portraits have unique crowns.

Thankyou so much :) it's hard to find good screenshits of the russian portraits DLC on gamersgate. Does anyone know when the Mediterranean portraits pack will be released?

Is it out already? Am I missing something? )

Not that I'm aware of. There are screenshots on gamersgate but they are low resolution and possibly early alpha.

Now if we had the Curia system to go with Republics...imagine the Cardinals' hats, and having a loyal nephew voted Pope or something.
Awesome.

Nope, making them German would not do well. Matilda of Tuscany, just to take everyone's favorite 1066 Italian nobleperson, was descended from a line of guys with names like Theobald, Richilda, Rainier etc with a few Bonifacios in between but they had been in Italy for many generations, spoke Italian and so on. So they were culturally Italian. Their Germanic naming habits reflected their upper class status and that they were conscious of their descent but it didn't mean they spoke German.

Culturally these guys are Italians, they just don't look like swarthy Sicilians. (And why should they... northern Italy used to be a Celtic populated place way back... no Carthaginians, Greeks or Arabs ever settled those places.)

Well, as a long time player of SWMH, which probably has the most extensive rework to the Italian cultures, i can only agree with you. And i'm so looking forward to seeing which cultures Aasmul is going to use the face pack on :D
