I can see why you cry. 10,000 arabs/berbers under Tariq wiped the floor with Spain in a matter of a few years with the help of jews. No wonder you harboured such hard feelings against them. Being relegated to second class citizens for centuries. At least Charlemagne had the courage to beat back a MUCH LARGER muslim army. Also, this game ends way before the expulsion of the moors and jews.

Cool story, sadly I'm portuguese and not spanish. It's sad too that the moors had this only good moment in history, when we reached america, india and oceania, when we stealed their ports and became the leader in the world, sad moors were not doing too well.

Point is moot since the Arab nobility in Spain also by far was light complexioned

Some of the problems is with lack of cultures/subcultures in game, northern Italians and southern Italians look different, probably looked even more different then. I don't mind these portraits for some areas but someone of Lombard stock would be better represented with the default European portraits.

Most of the influential Spanish or even Mexican people I've seen are lighter complected than people people in the Germanic countries. Andalusian in the DLC seem to have it right, being a sort of pale olive skin tone. I haven't played enough of these characters to really get a feel for them. As with all the characters in the game, though, I feel like bad looking characters are the result of fluke mixed characteristics. Usually you can find some good looking ones in there.

Italians and Greeks look very Roman in the DLC. Sometimes like they're destined to look old. I feel like this DLC is characteristically dark. Not in skin tone, but that its like everyone is depicted in a dark and gritty way. As if people are more sickly looking, their skin more worn.

Yeah, I'd prefer if they divided it into north and south Italian, or even Lombard/Sicilian/Etc. Doing otherwise is pretty ahistoric and silly, just because they wind up in the same union 800 years down the road.


On a side note, standard character portraits look a lot better in the republican clothes. I think they got new hair styles.

Personally, I also think the skin tones are way too dark. Looking at the screenies for The Republic, they all look like moors. I like new face packs but in this case I prefer the "generic" version. Maybe they could've aimed at a more "olive" tone? Oh well, I'll either ignore buying it or buy it and decide for myself what I'll replace with modding.

So I wanted to disapprove of the new skin pack: the skin is too dark, and, more improtant, the faces don't suite to the faces of the basic game at all. They are mach bigger, the facial features are totally distorted, the headdresses are too big or too small. It is just terrible. Usually I suppose many mediterran women to be really beautiful, and I didn't see any beautiful woman in this DCL. Unfortunately I can say the same about russian faces - they look like vampires. I am very dissapointed about these new packs.

Hope, paradoxx will do something to make it better, first of all to adapt them to the faces of the basic game

I haven't bought med face DLC yet, although I was eagerly waiting for it. The quality seems generally too poor (based on screenshots) for me to make the buy.

Can't make up my mind either, I like little DLC's like this, but some of the screenshots don't appeal to me at all.

OK. First of all: I'm buying the DLC whenever Steam decides he wants my money. Right now it seems they're not accepting any!

Second. I'm not racist. This just totally out of the equation.

Third: It's just a game.

But... I cannot talk for italians (I assume they don't look like that but I'll let them speak for themselves) but as for Spanish. They don't look like that. That's all the problem I have, that's where it ends. For a game that is "historical" it just is plain silly.

The thing to go would be make north europeans a little lighter than the regular skin tone is right now, and south europeans a little darker. It's not like you are out of colors, there's like 1 million different kinds of vanilla-esque tonalities out there. Make them a big percentage of dark brown/black hair with dark brown/black eyes. And that's where the differences for the draw of a basic portrait end. Now, I suppose that doesn't justify charging 5 euros and releaing a new DLC. :laugh:

It is really difficult to decide... Some of the men look all right, but others look like mummies - while the women... well, I dont know what you look like...
Could someone post some of the female portraits? I know it is a lot to keep asking to see portraits, and "if I wanna see portraits, I can just pay the 2 dollars and see myself" but if anybody had time to do so, it would be nice...
I just bought the Russian Facepack when it came out, not thinking about how they looked, and it has haunted me ever since... So now I am careful what I buy, cause soon, I have spend 2$ there, and 2$ there, and then 5$ another place - it all adds up...

LOL Kuro just ignore the trolls throwing around accusation of racism, you are spot on with your observations with skin tone in regards to Italians, Iberians, and yes Greeks. It's way to dark to be a generic fits all of the various culture groups based on the atrocious screenshots, so if someone has some screenshots of it that look good please post them.

I have no idea if the skin color is right or not, but IMO those faces look just terrible. I know that everybody can't look like a supermodel or anything, but those Mediterranean facepack faces barely resemble human. It's like they are ripped from those classic plastic surgery gone wrong examples. If Russian pack is even worse, I think I'll save my pennies. Back to generic european faces...

I come from Ukraine, my father is Rusiian. These faces are not generic, however, not a little bit. I do know, how Russians look like. NOT that way!

Which is good, because I find that a lot of the Russian females in that portrait pack look like men in wigs.
