Which is fine for people that check in on the MW5 Discord, not so much for anyone that doesn't.

Without a forum, discord has been the defacto information/announcement dissemination, AMA coordination and just general pre-Launch end-all-be-all for MW5. That has been clear all along.

But if folks don’t check in on MW5 discord... you’re right, it’ll be up to us to help spread the word. :bow:

Lots of people will play a game without ever going to said game's forums/Discord/whatever. For example, if users posting in this forum for BATTLETECH were indicative of player numbers for the game, then this would be a colossal failure. That's why Steam's UI, that lets people access development update notes right from the game page in their library, is so useful.

Anyways, my point is that EPIC does not facilitate the same level of communication between developer and player that Steam does, and PGI releasing their development updates on a Discord server with a little over 8000 people is far from ideal (and, I would argue, not acceptable for a development studio of their size, and a game of this scope)

With new car sales we accept that to buy a Chevy, you go to a Chevrolet Dealer. For a Ford, you go to a Ford Dealer.

Such branding and sales practices are the norm and perfectly acceptable.

Car dealerships, are not a good thing given the crap they've done to ensure they must exist. Like, it is illegal in most if not all US states for the manufacturers to sell directly to the consumer if they wanted, and it has been show that if dealerships weren't required cars would be cheaper. This is a bad argument.

It's not really a bad argument because the practice is bad. It would be a bad argument if he is wrong, but there is nothing wrong with his argument except that you think it's a bad practice. Doesn't change that it's a standard business practice that's used in all different kind of businesses all over the world.

Please consider: Community members are welcome and encouraged to express respectfully phrased criticism and negative opinions, but not to make it personal or wage a campaign in doing so.

Expressing one's criticism or opinion in a respectful manner is appreciated as it helps inform the entities of community interests as they make decisions going forward, even when the respectfully phrased criticism or opinion reflects an unhappy feeling.

However, it's not the same behavior as consistently posting the same negativity repeatedly in the same thread or especially across multiple threads. Thats what would lead to such being either opinion spamming, or even trolling others depending on the particulars.

Likewise others are in no way compelled to share our preferences or opinions.
When all else fails please do agree to disagree rather than opinion spam each other with dismissiveness or representing opinions as facts.

Please, if you've already stated your personal thoughts minus further repetition, posturing attempts at bandwagoning, monopolizing discussion, or representing opinions as facts- then your position is noted and publicly on record: kindly move on.

Posts disregarding the advice in this post will experience unfortunate jump drive malfunctions to the Far Country to be used as nesting materials by the locals without further reminder.

I think some people forget how craptastic Steam was for a very long time and that they helped put the nail in the coffin in regards to PC retail releases existing. Why people praise Valve the way they do makes zero sense to me. A digital store front is a digital store front. For me I'm clicking an exe on my desktop to run a game, I couldn't care less which digital store it came from.

Difference is that (a) Steam was the first fully online Video Game store, so they were learning as they go-Epic doesn't have that excuse. Also, other online game stores have learned lessons from Steam's launch that Epic has refused to learn (b) Steam launched with more features in 2004, & in a less buggy state, than Epic did in late 2018. Again, other online game stores also launched in a better state than Epic did. (c) Steam never actually forced people to purchase games from their stores (it took more over 5 years before I ever bought a game from Steam).

IIRC, while one could buy Half-Life 2 anywhere (I still have the metal box of the Collector's Edition along with the t-shirt that I got on a local shop ), Steam was mandatory in order to play, at least in the beginning; later on, the possibility of playing in Offline mode was added, but when the game launched one had to login and stay online while playing it.
