In the interest of spreading the wealth and of learning more than I/we already know, here are a few "game mechanics secrets" that it took me a long time to figure out and then use. (Note: I'm thinking strictly in terms of getting things to work mechanically, as it were, NOT strategic or tactical tips.)

--Right-click on production sliders to lock them in place
--Right-click on a stack of units in a single province and then select "Land Units" or "Fleets", etc.
--"Manual" disembarking from Transports (I've realized eventually that using this "secret" also helps to save any embarked troops that end up getting tossed off the beach: apparently transports in port can't receive/rescue retreating troops)
--Renaming units and formations

These are a few of the major headache-savers for me that, again, I had to discover only after playing for a long time. Care to chip in with similar "secrets" you've found? (Or, as always, if I'm duplicating a recent post on the same topic, would someone kindly direct me to it?!)

hold shift when you click on the +/- on the sliders to get them to move faster. Hold ctrl to make them move even faster. I wasted so much time adjusting them 0.01 IC at a time before I learned this.

P.S. Why is 12azors still spamming these forums??

oooo I didn't realize you could hold ctrl to make them move even faster than shift. Playing SOV it becomes quite a pain to move the sliders properly, dragging them one notch at a time still causes like a 5 IC shift (and a lot more if I don't drag it as carefully as possible) and using shift after that still takes a long time

The bolded part in 1.3 Arma now only works for friendly provinces. You now have to use the Amphibious assault command to land on an enemy beach.

-If you right click on the global map in the lower left corner, you can display the location of all your armies, navies, and airforces.

To select an assigned leader in the statistics screen, double-click on his name. It will bring you to the leader selection screen for his current unit.

In the scrolling game log at the bottom of the screen where it catalogs everything that is going on including every change in leader you make down to the announcements and results of battles and attacks to including any convoy raiding as well as bombing of industry etc. If you click the mouse pointer on any given line of information it will center the map screen on where that event is taking place.

This can be very helpful to find out where your enemy is bombing, or convoy raiding you so you can direct your interceptors, fighters, and asw etc. right to where the action is.

The hours I could have saved had I known this!!!

Thanks for the tip, Freightshaker.

I have that message set for pause so that I can bring myself to the location. Not handy for Gar units but nice for combat units.

-By using the unload unit button for transports, you can unloaded units to separate provinces/islands simultaneously.

No that doesn't work, I would have to have heard of that before.

It's the new beta-patch. Or we are all newbs again in some undocumented twilight world between intent and fruition.

I'm using Armageddon version 1.2 and that works in my game, so it's not a beta-patch thing.

It's been like that since Arma came out, I believe. Glad I've finally made a contribution here after lurking for so long :).

It comes in real handy for finding those pesky expeditionary forces that sneak through sometimes, like in my last game: As the US, somehow my option for accepting Exp Forces was toggled back to 'accept' for all of my allies. Simultaneously. I gained about 100 units immediately. I think it was a fluke in the beta patch.

I just tried it: it works! (Doesn't seem to work for units that I'm MCing... or am I missing something?)

Something to add that I just saw from Tris on another thread: in the STATS folder, SUNK SHIPS section, you can organize the listing by name, type of sunk ship, type of "ship sinker", etc. Not vital, I guess, but handy.

I think one of the morals of this story is that we should be clicking on pretty much everything we see (right and left clicks both!) to find whatever secret doors Paradox has hidden in-game!

Anyway, thanks, everyone, for the tips. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em.

Don't only click on everything, hover you pointer over everything as well, there are many very useful tooltips in the game.

and to think this game has been out for over 3 years or so....

It makes me frustrated sometimes that Paradox makes good games, but they are often not very intuitive or well thought out UI-wise. Imagine if a company like Apple or Valve were to put all of the finishing touches and think about the little details on a game like HOI2. Stuff like nobody knowing these shortcuts, or how hard it was to figure out how to regroup air wings in the same province as infantry, or the amount of clicking it takes to deploy a queue of ships or infantry, or to build a lot of factories.
