Rebels (red/black flag rebels)

I usually clean them up before they get much of a chance to get established, at best they take one city and move onto another one. By then I have usually wiped them out. The manual mentions that they will join other countries.

Can someone please confirm that Rebels (red/black flag rebels) will eventually break away and form their own nation ?

I've seen it happen a couple of times, though both times they were swallowed up by the original country right away. I've never seen a province controlled by rebels defect to another nation though.

It works very much the same way as in EU3. If any foreign country has a core in the rebel prov and is adjacent to it, the rebels may switch to that country. They can also form an independent one. But in my experience, it is a rare sight, much more than in EU3, making rebels in Rome less of a threat. Specialy if you add that they have shitty armies with no generals.

Speaking of rare events, I saw something for the very first time in one of my games. A succession war. It didn't happen to me, but an AI, so I have no idea how or why it happened.

I agree with Nachinus: rebels are no threat at all (barbarians are much, much more dangerous). They should have leaders and, maybe, some other units, not only militia (I'm not sure, only militia seems historical).
And, yes: rebels defeat or form a new country depending on the cores.

PD: sorry about my poor english.

Thanks for the comments guys.

It seems that the current in game version at best represents a leaderless mob which may do one of three things:

a) Break away to a neighbouring country which has a core on the province
b) Break away to become an independent nation
c) Sit there and do nothing if there are no other cores

Presumably with (b) it would have to have a core on the province as well (or does it use the barbarian new nation methodology ?)

You're pretty much right, yeah. And yes, for b) the breakaway country does need a core on the province in order to establish, as far as I can see.

The trouble is, in my games I've had many, many situations where a province captured by rebels has taken literally decades to turn to another country, even though that country has a core on it. I even created such a situation intentionally, but it takes far too long from what I've seen. I've tried to write an event to try and make this happen more quickly, but to no avail :(

Damn, I was thinking along the same lines. Cant we use some sort of province controlled by REB plus someone who doesnt exist with core on said province trigger ... or ... an event for every country (its capital) so when rebels take over it triggers.

Good to have you back Cheexsta.

I don't remember what the exact code was that I tried, but IIRC it was easy enough to get it to trigger, it was just hard to secede_province to another faction that has a core on it without it already existing.

The other option is to just make them spawn the appropriate breakaway region country (one of the Qxx countries). Shouldn't be too hard to do, just lengthy.
