Your CN9-A Centurion came back from patrol without a right torso after an ammuniton bin exploded (bloody Swaybacks and their innumerable lasers!). This part of the 'mech is particularly difficult to repair - the Centurion's Luxor D-series autocannon is prone to failure and difficult to get parts for. Corean Industries, CN9's OEM, is in Davion space, while the Argo is cruising around the, ahem, rear end of the Rimward Periphery. The mere thought of having to work on that part of the 'mech is causing Yang to curse the day you were born in a curious mix of Mandarin and Finnish.

It would take weeks to reconstruct the right torso, right arm and the infamously problematic ammunition feed for two tonnes of AC/10 shells, not to mention having to purchase an appropriate autocannon... Unless your MechTechs could work their magic and "borrow" a Kali Yama Class 10 salvaged from a cored Orion, relying on hopes and dreams as well as copious amounts of gaffer tape and cable ties to make the unholy contraption work.

Then there's the other CN9-A that's been languishing in Argo's cargo hold for months, its weapons and armour completely stripped down. You were saving that one to serve as backup in case another one of your 'mechs got blown to pieces, or, if you were to fall on hard times, to sell to that insufferable Capellan arms dealer who had been pestering you for God knows how long. Refitting that 'mech to full operational condition would take just as long, if not longer than simply fixing your battered Centurion.

Then a thought enters your mind - instead of rebuilding the right side of your 'mech from scratch, why not "borrow" the arm and side torso from that decomissioned 'mech and use it on your own? Yang nods in approval - his job would be made infinitely easier if his team were to use existing components. After he finishes your 'mech, he can work on the donor in his spare time to make it whole again.

With this little vision out of the way, here are my suggestions for future DLCs:

1. Lengthen 'mech repair times if major overhauls (i.e. replacing blown-off bits) are in order. Might as well them more expensive while you're at it.

2. Create an option of using salvaged 'mech components (from the same type of course) to replace said blown-off bits to speed up and cheapen repairs.

3. Create an option of not automatically putting together a whole 'mech from available components. I'd be happy to reassemble a 'mech before selling it, but if point 2 were to be implemented, I'd also like to be able to dig into Yang's man cave/spares stash to maintain my existing force.

4. Allow complete 'mechs to be cannibalised for spare parts (i.e. broken down into components).

IMHO these tweaks would add another dimension to repairs and battlefield salvage. Your entire operation already relies on the talents of your MechTechs, why not expand this particular aspect of mercenary company management?

Mech repairs for players just starting out can be problematically already so extending them would make the earlier game much harder. Also being able to 'borrow' a specific part from another mech doesn't exist because we don't really gets parts like that in the salvage system. You may want that but I personally don't see that as anything but adding unneeded complexity to the system.

Nicely creative narrative.

I sort of like the idea of cannibalizing a stored chassis to speed repair time. I dont think overall repair times should be lengthened just to facilitate a mechanism like this, though.

I'm glad you embellished your case with the Centurion narrative, but didn't seriously propose it as a rules change.

Such a feature would probably have no happy medium...it could easily be overdone, but yet if it only applied to a few problematic variants, it could make them far less useful.
