I mean, while the Thunderbolt 5S, 5SS and 5SSE have different default loadouts, there's no actual difference between them, is there? I could setup a 5S like a 5SS and vice versa and they'd be just the same, right?
Different variants also have different armour maximums, maximum mobility, etc. This is visible in the yellow bar graph when you select each mech.Oh, I see. That's good to know. I'd not really paid much attention to it before.
The Cicada-3C is one of the must have mechs for your lance later on in the game if you perfer to use PPC or LRM setups. put a pilot that has the -1 Initiative skill and it'll still move in the light mech phase. Some models like the Cicada 3C have a smaller engine than a 2A, which means you can put more equipment on the 3C, even though that's not saying much considering how little you can do with the 2A, but that's just one example of how much the variants can differ. Other variants only differ slightly. Yang will usually give you an idea of what to expect the first time you acquire a new variant.
You are kidding right? There is no reason to use a Cicada, if you could just use a Jenner instead. It's strictly better and can even move in phase 4 without a master tac. pilot. The Cicada-3C is one of the must have mechs for your lance later on in the game if you perfer to use PPC or LRM setups. put a pilot that has the -1 Initiative skill and it'll still move in the light mech phase.

This is a sort of related question but has anyone noticed whether weapon hardpoints on the model change? I'm certain I've seen MGs on the outside of the Battlemaster's fist, but say for example if put an AC there would those change to a big gun barrel?
They are using the MWO models, so it should. I'm pretty sure my K2 has an AC 5 sticking out of each shoulder.
