I'm playing England with EU 1.02 and have control of 3 of Scotland's 4 Provinces (including it's capital). I'm at +25 on the peace table but Scotland has repeatedly refused my peace offer of ceding to me Strathclyde which is only a 10 on the Peace Table. Finally, I demanded 250 ducats in tribute which they agreed to, but only 25 or so ducats showed up in my treasury. What gives?

Hello Bob, welcome to the Forums. :)

In general, I find that the AI doesn't want to cede provinces unless either :

a) You own their capitol and ALL their other provinces if they are small, AND you have dusted all their land forces.

b) You own a bunch of their stuff and they are big (and you might even own their capital).

In the former case, I haven't really had the AI offer me any provinces on its own, I usually have to demand them with a +100% peace.

In the latter case, the AI usually begins to proffer forth more and more provinces on its own the more of their stuff that you have, but it tends to want to offer you their crap (like hey, want this grain province that won't be connected to you if you get it... but its got a nice view......)...

In Scotland's case, try whacking the last province, and make sure you have destroyed their land forces. If you can do this, you will most probably be able to walk with their 3 non-capital provinces. Of course, if you are in a situation where you can't push, you might just try to keep asking for the one province, my understanding is that sometimes you'll hit a point where the AI will say yes to the deal.

As for the money, the AI will only give you what it has in its treasury currently, it will not take a loan to satisfy a peace demand. However, if you can wait some, then they will have more money to offer as they continue to make some income over time, AND sometimes, they will take a loan themselves, and then offer to you a peace with a larger sum than you could have asked for on your own from a demand.

Hope this helps, and again, welcome.

Yours -

Lord Khang

Thanks for the Info and advice Khang. Unfortunately I already made the peace for which I received a measly 25 Ducats. I thought I read somewhere in this Forum that 1.02 was suppose to correct the "bug" where the AI would refuse reasonable peace offers. Anyway, it is definitely a bug if the AI accepts a peace requiring it to pay more ducats then it currently has in its treasury but it doesn't have to borrow to make up the difference. Can I do this as a player nation?

As a player nation, if you never offer more than is in your treasury, you never have to take a loan either. The computer will not offer more than is in it's treasury. The AI also won't request more than is in your treasury.

O.K., so the AI won't offer more than it has in it's treasury; but it will accept a peace offer to pay tribute of more than it has in it's treasury. The bug is that it should not be allowed to do this without having to borrow to make good on it's peace commitment. I will now be very reluctant to make an offer of peace to an AI country that it pay me ducats as tribute. Is there any way to find out how much an AI country has in its treasury?

Well, you could pick up a gamespy like EU2Spy. In game, since I'm usually too lazy to spy the file, what I do is wait for THEM to make the first offer. If they offer it, they have it. Then I make my counteroffer.

Yeah, what they need to do perhaps, is put the amount of money in the AI treasury on the peace negotiation screen somewhere. I believe I've seen this mentioned somewhere else. It would seem the fair thing to do, considering the AI knows how much is in our treasury. In this fashion, we won't feel so rooked when it doesn't cough up what we asked for.

I disagree.

Gentlemen I believe some of you might be mistaken. When you get a 3GB offer of peace or a 23GB offer of peace that is not because the computer is asking your for that much, it is because you only have that much in your coffers. Check your victorypercentages next time and you will see that the opposing nation is probably asking you for 300GB but is only getting what you got in your coffers. I think this works both ways.

It is what is occuring, when you have zero money, the AI will ask for peace DEMANDING, and then the space on the pop up message box where the amount demanded should be, will just be blank. It actually looks quite strange, you say to yourself demanding what?
