maybe an ai character with the shy trait should avoid going down the seduction route

just found a really cool guy in my most recent game. arrogant, arbitrary, and shy dude with an intrigue education randomly ended up on the seduction focus when he got landed, so obviously he had to begin banging everyone he possibly could right away immediately. with debug mode open i can see hes hovering on about 200 stress at all times and hes picked up about five discrete stress traits since hes shy but rngesus made him dedicate his life to adultery for some reason

you can argue if you want that shy pathetic nerds dedicate themselves to trying to become pickup artists all the time irl so its actually realistic that paradox hates implementing checks for their videogame, but personally i think it would be better if paradox would implement checks for their videogame. you can feel how you like about it but thats where im at. maybe im a contrarian but i think a characters personality should influence their behaviour somewhat

arguably i could probably post this in bug reports but its not really a bug is it. just bad design

apologies for the tone but like. goddamn

isn't education focus is assigned by guardian?
so he is educated to be that and too cowardly to walk his own way
classic family trauma?
Still, there are times RNG decides on something that literally makes no sense at all. A few "Sanity Checks" would be appreciated...

What are you talking about! It's total immersion! 10/10! A+! All The Memes! ;)

Sarcasm aside, I think it should be fairly obvious that proper checks for character actions, and events (!), are just not a priority for the game or devs at this point. I can't imagine how much work it would actually take to go back and fix all of the stuff in the game that could use checks to make sure things make sense so I feel like it is just going to be a "feature" of the game at this point. It would be weird for new additions to have proper checks but old content doesn't. I picked up the game again for a little while because of FoI (wasn't expecting an actual, proper new game mechanic to be added) but, aside from the game's usual issues (some good ideas marred by poor execution and balancing), stuff like this just makes me wonder what's the point. Why should I care if my Just and Honest son is going to have an affair with a 60 year old for no discernible reason? Your Just son murdering peasants on the hunt. And so on. The obvious answer is you shouldn't and the devs don't seemed particularly bothered by this since every addition they've made to the game is just more random selections of characters and actions without regard for the larger game situation (the number of religiously hostile neighbors I've had try and befriend me was alarmingly high) or the actual characters involved (see the above). Given the very likely probability of this never changing, the game is just never going to reach whatever potential it has and always be a kind of mess.

You are confusing a couple of things. Education focuses are assigned when a child is around eight (which, as far as I know, the AI never changes) which then turns into a Education trait (Intrigue in this case) when they come of age. You then a have a lifestyle focus (Intimidation, Skulduggery, and Temptation) and then the Perk Trees (Schemer, Seducer, and Torturer) that you fill out. It makes no sense for a shy person to ever have a Temptation focus or fill out the Seducer tree.

here is the auto_selection_weight of temptation, you can see how heavy the influence of eduaction focus,
and will multiple by 0 and thus no random if dev think it is truely no sense, shy did blocks foreign affairs and martial authority,
I think the difference is, shy did cause stress on the progress, but it does not violate the goal of it, the goal is in the catogery of lustful/chaste
Code:
    auto_selection_weight = {
        value = 11
        if = {
            limit = {
                has_education_intrigue_trigger = yes
            }
            add = 1989
        }
        if = {
            limit = {
                has_trait = lustful
            }
            multiply = 7
        }
        if = {
            limit = {
                OR = {
                    has_trait = celibate
                    has_trait = chaste
                }
            }
            multiply = 0
        }
    }

The problem with this is that, realistically, there are more than two or three that should determine whether or not someone should try and seduce someone. Shy, obviously, but also Honest, Just, Lazy, Content, Humble, Trusting and Paranoid all have strong arguments for them preventing seduction schemes, which is a problem with the devs approach. All of the personality traits in the game can be approached in a variety of ways but the devs basically only take the narrowest approach which leads to a lot of situation where characters "act out of character" according to the real world logic of their traits but not the in game logic. Whether its a staffing issue or a priorities issues, or both, its clearly causing issues in the game, especially when it comes to immersion, which the devs have repeatedly claimed is a high priority for them.
