I have had only 2 crashes in the past 2 weeks. I've traced one but the other has eluded my detection abilities and is in Johan's inbox. I am also encouraged by the very few crash reports in the debug thread (although maybe that's as much due to the frighteningly large file sizes that are now generated) as well as the considerable number of people who are posting to say how stable it is. It's beginning to look as though we are getting close to getting them all purged.

Incidentally, I have not seen a single report of a CTD on save with the May 13th patch (or if there has been one, I somehow missed it). Has anyone had a CTD while saving with the current patch?

Crashing becomes substantially more frequent when playing multiplayer, but it isn't of the non-recoverable variety as it was back in the days of the VFC. The game crashes on the client, the host saves, everyone rejoins, and it carries on fine. This doesn't occur during saving - I've tried but it doesn't seem reproducable. There might still be a crash bug in the network code but it is pretty damn stable now (about as stable multiplayer as EU2 pre-1.05 used to be). I haven't had a crash in singleplayer yet.

No CTDs while being at the computer, though the game had mysteriously shut down after i returned from my coffee round. Maybe it was feeling deserted and wanted to punish me?

Only three-four CtD's with May13 Patch (and being Triskadecaphobic thats saying something!) none of which were on saving.

One of the CtD's was as Mulliman says (leaving it) however I find that happens often with me in other games - must be Microsoft XP and comp config or someit.

Stable game - Huzzah!!

Getting a gfx/fonts/proforma12 upon clicking the crusaders.exe in the beta winrar; still am able to play the game, though clicking on other rulers I get a couple of UNKNOWN STRINGS WANTED, as well as in some events. Sorry if I sound like a moron and this has been posted before, but I didn't have time to comb through the thread yet. thanx

It sounds almost exactly like a faulty install or patching...

Ok, still at 13th May...

Current test run from 1066 to 1250, with Duchy of Catalonia turned into Kingdom of Aragon as usual for me.

Mongols have been anhilated as soon as they have showed up their head. It must be said, though, that the kingdom of Bolgar had formed, and the Golden Horde collided against such big kingdom. Il-Khanate has lasted a bit more, but not a lot more.

By the way... NO damn cultural conversion event in the whole game... And I captured some arab provinces as soon as 1067.

For formation of Ireland fans: Ireland formed in 1240, with only the county of Ulaid and Connact out of it, and a pair of counties in Scottish lands.

Something nice: Castille(!) and France are crusading against the Fatimids and Rodrigo de Vivar got a county. :D

I've been impressed with this patch so far, with some great AI performance and stability.

Now that you mention it...I've not had any cultural conversion events either, and my religion conversions are pretty rare, even with a three or four star bishop. The childhood lazy events seem to be firing an awful lot as well.

I've now had both Mongol hordes appear in my latest game and again get squished by a combination of minor states in thier region pretty quickly.

I'd almost say that we need to put the Mongols back to their 1.4a Vanilla and try again. I think with the "remove regiment" command working, and the new improved AI making use of full military resources that the mongols may be balanced out naturally now.

I have to think the hordes are still very hit and miss as designed I believe. In my last game that got up to about 1300, the Golden Horde had grabbed 50+ provinces in the east and was locked in a mighty battle with Poland and Germany. The Il-Khanate had a false start- got smashed by Seljuks- then came back and grabbed about 25 provinces in the Middle East, battling the Seljuks and apatchwork of Christian and Muslim states in Syria and along the Levantine.

Game Update: Played 1066 to 1270. Still not a repeatable CtD, although I had about 3 non repeatable ones.

Still no damn damn damn cultural conversion. Really guys, if that was to be true, I can't understand why I am not myself muslim cultured, since I am personally from that province in map in southeastern Iberia named "Denia", which was conquered in the second half of the XIII century, and I swear by whatever I hold sacred that the main culture of the whole area was Catalan and not Arab in the late XIV century without the shadow of a doubt.

Kindom of Naples has turned into... Republic of Naples. Well, I guess that somehow a claimaint of the napolitan throne got the presidency of the republic of Genoa and conquered Naples, holding his republican structure. Pretty neat, if you ask me. Germany, France and England implode and reform regularly, in cycles of what I would say would be 75 year or so, 25 years up or down.

Mongols appeared, as I said in my last report, but finally the last Golden Horde's appearance has made a impact, having conquered all northeastern russia, but they are holded into place there by the kingdom of Bolgar, which has been driven back to Ucrania... and the sudden irruption of the Kingdom of Georgia, which is holding the Russian South, the Caucausus (the WHOLE of it).

Il-Khanate has been squeezed every time they have dared to expose their head.

The previously all powerful Sultanate of Seljuk, that held its capital in Byzantion itself, holding all northern Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania in Europe, and most of the Anatolia peninsula and their initial possesions (they were so powerful that they defeated the Kingdom of Germany and grabbed all central Italy), fell to an incredible amount of civil war and fractured so badly that it only holds possesions on northern Greece. Now Byzantion is held by... the Kingdom of the Abbasid! Yup, the Caliphate is now in Byzantion. All Muslim middle east and Anatolia is fractured, though.

Egypt is a patchwork of republic of Naples, Germany and France (although the french possesions of the Duchy of Cairo has gone independent). Northern Africa is in muslim hands yet, pretty peaceful if you ask me.

Sicily is partly in muslim hands (Shiekdoms) and a pair of provinces in the hands of the christians (Republic of Naples and Germany).

Player influence: All Iberia unified by 1130, after reconquista failed in all sides but mine by the 1100 (Duchy of Catalonia turned into Kingdom of Aragon). 1130 to 1230 I have been slowly conquering all of the Occitan cultured provinces (a self appointed game objective, always waiting for France and England to get involved in other wars... man, now IA DOES have a big punch if you let them, I have seen french armies of 30.000), and now in 1270 only a single one is out of my hands (in the hands of a very feeble Duke of Brittany, it's only matter of time for me). Genoa and Nice were conquered in 1230 when they rebelled against the german king. Central Italy and Rome was conquered during the 1210 decade from the turks as they began to fracture in a HUGE civil war as I mentioned. I still have a pair of provinces in the middle of it but all my holdings are territorialy coherent (that is, you can go walking from every province to any other without going out of my realm). My only possesions north of the Po river is the southwestern part of the duchy of Veneto (including Venice).

In 1260 I crusaded for Jerusalem (that had been for 30 years in christian hands, but only 3 provinces of that kindgom to the most) and in 1265 I created the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem with all provinces but 3 for my second son.

Oh, I had forgot!! The Papal states are now in... Avignon! After the pope was ousted by the muslims from rome, his lands were recreated in the Venaissin province, in the hands of my vassal, the Duke of the Dauphiné.

One more update. I currently LOVE the game I am playing. Its fantastic, by far the best till now. Still Russia. Golden Horde finally turned up in the middle of my southern lands, and then did sweet FA for about 5 years while I had my hands full with the Il Khanate (whom I had been fighting for around 30 years by this point) suddenly, the GOlden Horde DoWed me, the bastards made a beeline south...

...towards the Il-Khanate.

About 4 provinces down, they met their Mongol chums and prompted declared war on them. About 6 months later, they BOTH white-peaced me (while remainign at war with each other), and I happily accepted. I had managed to hold off both Hordes at the cost of around 75,000 ducats, 200,000 men, and a mere 3-4 provinces. I am more than pleased with that outcome.

There followed a titanic war between the two hordes. Both groups manpower went from around 150,000 mark each, to about 15,000-30,000 mark. What a war that must have been!! Provinces were changing on an almost monthly basis, 10's of thousands of troops would march paralell with more borders, never to reappear. It was absolutely fantastic to watch. Espciailly when a 5 province Azerbaijan joined in and prompted kicked both groups backsides, and quadrupling in size!

I love this game!

This war lasted around another 4-5 years (I was busy reforming and rebuilding my exhausted kingdom) when the Golden Horde DoWed me again. The fools. This time I was ready, I quickly gathered an army and utterly decapitated the Golden Horde (the Il Khanate were shielded by the Azerbaijanese) taking around 15 provinces in less than 2 years. I left the Mongols with about 6 provinces before seeking peace, leaving them in the middle of the caucaus region and probably thoroughly confused as to how they managed to mess it up so quickly.

With my southern flank secure, I can finally teach my arch-nemesis, Hungary-Poland, whose the daddy in these parts.

If Paradox release an expansion for this game I will buy it.

MrT said:
I have definitely not seen this nor read any other reports about it. Maybe worth saving your game, copying the save into another folder (so it won't get accidentally deleted), and then doing an uninstall/reinstall.

I've had this on at least 3 occasions that I've noticed. All during the Long War with the Il-Khanate. Twice with small armies of around 1,500 and once with a 12,000 strong led by my PC. Every time its been a case of the army being defeated, retreating to a province and then being attacked simaltuously in this new province. They instantly lose and then disappear. I assumed it was WAD. Makes sense to me to have this happen, though I was still cursing my king for a coward ;)

I've seen this a few times. I've just assumed the army didn't have someplace to retreat do and was slaughtered.

Vassal independence

I'm playing as an uber-powerful German state which controls most of the known world. I keep getting the 'vassal declares hard won independence to better administer lands' events (which is all fine and dandy), but they always ask to be vassalized due to the fact that I am the king of the kingdom of which their duchy belongs to. I imagine that this may have been brought up before, but I think that if you own the king title to the kingdom of which this duchy would naturally belong, the event should NOT fire up. It should fire up if you are not the king, or if they duchy does not belong to a kingdom (ie Finland, Brittany). It's really annoying to have them declare independence only to receive a message to vassalize them. I think it is unrealistic for them to declare independence if you are their natural liege and if you are running a tight ship (over 80% efficiency, spotless BB). A better idea would be their asking you if you would confer independence and they would remain independant for the rest of the game.
Another idea that I propose has to do with the occurance of a king being the vassal of another king. Due to the event of granting independence to a kingdom in the Holy Land (ie King of Jersualem) and being able to vassalize them, this could be used for other lands which you posess the king title for. For example, since I have the Kingdom of North Africa title, an event could fire up where a Duke composing that kingdom would ask if I would be so gracious as to make him the king of North Africa, while he would then remain my vassal. This would improve his standing, and would allow for more fun as events could then pop up where he could go to war against you due to your levels of BB, efficiency, etc. and truly become independant.

I'm not programmer nor do I have the faintest idea if any of this is possible. If I have repeated something already said, I apologize.

Well. Hopefully huge multi-kingdom empires will be relegated to the unwieldy pain-in-the-arses they were in RL. I have high hopes for the new complex scripted events that MrT gave us a hint of in another thread.

The HRE was massive afterall...But hardly functional except in the rare times it had a strong Emperor. And even then they often spent the majority of their time putting down internal revolts. This caused most of their subsequent success outside the HRE to be transistory and fleeting.
