In this last beta... isn't the lazy trait giving event happening just too much? It's by far the one that most appears in my games, and that's an impression shared in the Spanish forums.

Flickering Screen

I'm not sure this is the right thread for this or not, but I'm experiencing screen flicker when I am playing Crusader Kings. I've just started to experience this with the latest patch of Crusader Kings [May 13]. This only happens when I'm playing CK, but it just started recently, meaning that when I first started playing the new patch it didn't occur initially.

EDIT BY CASTELLON: We fixed this problem in the tech support forum, the issue had nothing to do with the patch.

Best patch by a long way. Having said that I have noticed a couple of strange things.

1. I seem to recall when playing old patches that culture would spread as well as religion in such places as Iberia, only slower through events.
I am playing as Castille and up to 1270s and not one christian prov has changed from arab. Just about all of them have been in christian hands for over 100 years.

2. Around 1260 the Golden horde turned up in russia not unexpectedly. I looked over that area shortly after and they had expanded to 3 provs. Next time I looked they had been eliminated.
Curious about this, I reloaded from an old save and just watched what had happened. Seems the Kingdom of poland had steam rollered them half way through 1261.
It seems that prov troop levels have been elevated since i last played back in december 2004, is it possible that the horde troop levels havnt been boosted also?

On top of those points i still think it wierd that arabs keep swamping ireland and england in the 1100 and 1200s. Everyone knows this shouldnt happen till the 1970s

Very impressed by the stability (one CTD, not-reproduceable in approx 18 hours). Credit to the bug hunters and fixers.

Have only had the obvious things this time (been playing with the replacement plague events though) which are well reported already. (eg Lazy might need looking at - seems to fire a lot, especially for female children when playing DoGwynedd).

Cheers Mr.T and co.

Some quick observations on the new betas.

Playing as Novgorod -> later King of Rus.

Childhood events are brilliant. Although I only seem to get two or three events (it escapes me which ones these are, right now, I think its the lazy and the energetic). I assume there are more, if not, good work anyway!

The il-khanate horde turned up, around 1245 (its now 1260). They've conquered around about 35 provicnes in an extremely fragmentated area (noone owned more than about 5 provinces) but are already on the back foot. All their initial armies have dissapeared or are in hiding. They still have some impeteuous, but nothing like the initial phases.

No sign of the Golden Horde, which is just as well as I control all the land in that area.

EDIT: Oh, and its VERY stable for me too. No crashes in about 10 hours of game play.

I'm getting a lot of regiments disbanding for no reason (no event popups, at least) unless they are selected. I can reproduce this during reloads, but have been able to prevent it by selecting the army / regiment in question and slowing down the game speed. ANyone else having this or is my machine being flaky?

A quick update on the game I'm playing. Its now about 1470, the Golden Horde still haven't shown up. Starting to wonder if they ever will, and I hope they don't because I've got my hands full with the Ilkhanate. They've grown to about 80 provinces, thus consolidating the south-east area of the map quite happily. Only my Russian empire rivals them in size (Byzantium is distant third). War was been declared on my vassals, so I thought I would join the fray. Ho boy! After about a year (and I captured around 4 provinces and duelled with dozens of middling Mongol armies), a 96,000 strong Mongol army has just arrived. I saved and quit, my old ticker just isn't up to that kind of shock.

That was my thought as well. It seems as if every three or four ingame days, at least one message will pop up for a child in my court, and its almost always the 'lazy' one. Very annoying.

Also, how does the Beubonic plague function? I'm playing my game, and it appeared of out no where in about the 1130's or so. I had thought this didn't arrive in OTL until the 13th or 14th century; although I could be wrong.

See some posts earlier in this thread and scattered about in some of the others. There's also a quick fix posted in the patch download thread (link in my sig.).

I have definitely not seen this nor read any other reports about it. Maybe worth saving your game, copying the save into another folder (so it won't get accidentally deleted), and then doing an uninstall/reinstall.

In a recent MP game, one of my regiments apparently disbanded spontaneously while I was crusading in Finland. Lost me a battle, in fact, when the pagans suddenly outnumbered me. This happened twice. However, MP is a bit of a special case; perhaps a message didn't get through, or something?

Hmm. Does each consecutive beta need a virgin install of the entire game plus patches, a reinstall of the 1.04a patch only over my unmodded game, or simply installing the newest beta overtop the existing beta? I'd been doing the latter, maybe that's the problem.

Well...it's not quite 2 weeks old now and it's actually nice to get a couple weeks to put it through its paces.

Incidentally, with the stuff happening at the office this week relating to the PI server, it's entirely possible (extremely likely) that there won't eb a new patch this week either. Johan's lost nearly 2 days to issues with firewall and server settings and isn't likely to have any CK scripting itme at all.

So far in two out of three games started with the May 13 Beta, I have had pneumonic plague strike early. One game, all of the provinces in my desmesne had it by 1073. The other game, it struck in 1082. That can't be WAD. Also, I thought pneumonic plague was supposed to come after a bubonic plague epidemic.

I agree with FranzJosef.. this patch has been very stable and fun to play. My wife misses the days when a new patch would come out and I would end up walking away in frustration after a few hours (of course, I'd ALWAYS come back sooner or later).

Her latest request is that when I talk about "my kids" doing something funny/strange/weird/adventurous I specify whether I'm talking about "my kids" in CK or my real children.
