Reformed countries get 6 per year right?

It should be more realistic if, for example, the king/queen decided to give impulsion or not to colonization. If you compare colonization policy between French and English monarchs, it is totally different! French sent only a few thousands of colonists and England sent (or pushed to send( hundred of thousands of colonists. New France covered a larger territory but has, in 1760, 65 000 people. New England=1,5 million!
This difference should be represented in monarch's action.

In our country, we could also lauch promotion campaigne to advertise colonization. It should be necessary to have the possibility to make the difference between a country interested in colonization and a country who it is not. Not only by the construction of seaport. For example, a revolting province, a province who suffered of the war or plague should 'produce' less colonists than wealthy provinces.

But isn't that exactly why people chose to leave their homes in Europe? To escape persecution, war, famine and poverty? In my opinion, countries with close to perfect conditions should receive no colonists at all, except to send to the odd trading post.

Colonists appear at a given rate determined by:
-religion (counter reform get the most)
-country (colonially dynamic countries get more, ie England has more than the Hansa)
-Shipyard (+1 per year)
-Conquistadors

A special random event (rush of colonist) gives you sometimes three more colonists.

I guess maximising also measn how you USE them the best way.....
I use the little ship icon (got that answered in this forum by the way) to see the percentage of success. You increase this by:
1. Having a army or even better a conquistador present in the province.
2. Kill of the native if they are to 'abuse' against you settlers.
3. Having an explorer outside your coastal province.
4. Being a neighbour to an of your existing provinces.

I normally decide for a place to build up a colony where I have a chance to expand with several provinces. It's imporant to know that Spain and Portugal will sooner or later comes with their hungry hands and that your unprotected colonies will give stars (cross for you) in a European war.....

A 'calm' colony with a large population and your conquistador there to protect the settlers will give you a large and prosperous city fast, which can produce it's own army and build up a good and productive colonial economy.

Trade posts I only use for 'impossible' provinces (no settlers seems to be able to colonize) and to 'take' a territory for an competitior....

1.why is a conquistador better? does this increase percentage?
2.what is abuse? number or aggresivity level? any ideas how killing of would increase percentage?
3.huh? an explorer? how could this help?
4.i could be wrong, but this one doesn´t raise percentage
5.you miss having a trade post before grants a better chance
