Why would you use charge infantry instead of maurician? Maurician has more overall pips. Am i missing something here? Charge infantry is supposed to be more advanced as they are level 16 and maurician is 15.

It has to do with shock modifiers, even if maurician has better overall pips, charge infantry has more shock and at that current tech i believe the infantry shock modifier is bigger than the fire modifier. Your regiments will end up doing more damage(and taking less) if you use charge. With that said they're both quite similar. I don't really know any of the numbers off by heart but I remember in Eu3 you would get charge when you unlock, but then change back to maurician once the fire modifiers caught up.
I've just had a war with the blue blob as Spain in my WD AAR. They doubled me in numbers but with just mountains, I destroyed their Mauricians with my charge infantry (Their general was slightly better but the main reason is shock periods are the thing). Gonna upload the result soon (the battle gave me +30 battle score and left 30 stacks from once-120 French army).
It's currently 1.1 in fire and 1.15 in shock so there isn't any difference there. Mauricians have 2 more pips in offensive morale and in EU4 morale is king. Well, guess i'll have to give them a try for the first time
