CK2 does not model matrilineal descent. Not surprising, because it was exceedingly rare in medieval Europe (if it existed at all), but nevertheless, I would love to see this inheritance "law" modeled (probably because of my background in cultural anthropology).

What is matriliny?

Well, first of all, do not confuse it with cognatic descent. While many people associate "matriarchy" and the right of woman to own land and title with matriliny, this is not necessarily the case. It not uncommon in matrilineal systems for titles, etc., to be inherited exclusively by men (i.e., agnatic), but ONLY THROUGH THE FEMALE LINE.

Matriliny can be more complicated that patriliny. When a male dies, his title does not go to his son, instead (presuming agnatic), it goes to a male relative of the matriline. This is typically going to be a maternal uncle (mother's brother), or a nephew through a sister (sister's son). It could also be a cousin on the matriline.

The curious case of the Picts.

It has often been thought the Picts were matrilineal, mostly owing to Bede, but this has been argued back and forth over the years. If they were, they appear to be agnatic being as their kings lists appear to be exclusively male.

I would love to see matrilineal descent "law" available in CK2 and accurately modeled, and should specifically be available for the Picts. It is also widespread in West Africa.

Oh, I should add, cognatic martriliny is easy. Daughter inherits from mother. If there are no eligible children, succession goes to a relative on the female line of descent.
