I think one reason why these community events are set up like they are is, that nobody has to play the Nazis.
The winner should celebrate and larp a bit live on the PDX channel.
Doing this as Nazi or Adolf could lead to akward situations.
Having Germany go imperial avoids it.

Doubt that. More than likely it's because meme content sells better so it makes the most sense to devote advertisement to it. Essentially all their MP/let's play events have been about meme content, as have most of their HoI4-related trailers. No doubt once the USSR rework comes, they'll do one where they put Trotsky in charge, moral qualms be damned. Or did they do one with Mexico already?

I used to watch TommyKay and never understood this. He seems pretty chill. Is this a case of he said something bad years ago and is cancelled because of it? None of it really makes sense because several of the people they invited are much more toxic than Tommy is. Dankus and Bo are alright but Tommy isn't? It's even weirder considering how much free promotion Tommy gives their games.

Yeah, I occasionally look at this stream and the worst I saw was a weird discussion of how the world is descending into autocracy and responding to criticism of chinese repression with "western democracies have done worse". Nothing to call toxic

It'd be nice if they actually tried to re-enact WW2 for once in these streams, instead of always this silly meme stuff. But I understand they need to advertise the content they actually make for the game, so what can you do. I just think it's a shame.

The title card for their stream is literally "Altering history since 2016."

I think they know where most of their market is.

Great job Paradox (Josh in particular?) that was a very entertaining stream/concept. Total success in my opinion. The Mediterranean format was very creative. The streamers were even saying they wished there was a round 3 tomorrow.

I'm excited to see what you think of next, and please consider inviting TommyK too next time. If you have concerns just talk to him about it and ask him to behave or whatever and see if he agrees (assuming you haven't already).

Yeah, that was a fun event. If the plan was for Germany to go alone against the world and attack on all fronts, paradox really needed to give him a co-op partner or two .

Edit: now that I think about it, you could even meme it up if you got some streamers to be the co-ops and be like "X and Y streamers coming in with the steel chair"

The only awkward part is when Paradox interviewed the streamers during different 'breaks', the streamers oddly clammed up. Hopefully tomorrow the guys will remember it's a broadcast and they should ham it up and LARP a little. They have no problem filling a weekly 6 hour stream but during a 5 minute set piece they get all shy like a long-tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Coming from the streamer perspective I thought I ought to chime in; it's not that we don't want to share too much - we're happy to. After all a large part of what we do is share tips and tactics but rather that there are 7 people in an online call without video so it's impossible to know who is trying to talk. There's nothing worse than having people talk over each other, and we're all very aware of this.

I'm glad that you all enjoyed it though, I for one had an absolute blast!

Great job with the submarines! The Greek navy, Portugese air force, and Turkish tanks were such MVPs. I'm glad the streamers won with a great example of specialization among faction members, showing how much better it is to have everyone do one thing really well rather than everyone try to do everything.

Another thing that I haven't seen mentioned, but absolutely great job to the devs for managing to organize an event with this many people and have it go so well! It was a blast watching it, and I personally would love to see more events like it.

It was interesting to see that PDX resurrected a younger Howard Cosell in Count Cristo. I'm also checking my world atlas for the Wheel Sea...

I was impressed with the audacity of naval invasions and sweeping encirclements by the players.

It was overall a good learning exercise for me and well worth the time to watch.

If you watched Bo's stream, he fully was not expecting his naval invasions into Japan to work. A lot of inexperienced players forget to garrison mainland Japan and have their entire army in China or elsewhere, but you can't expect that to be the case most of the time. He just did it for the memes and because of the off chance it works and he capitulates Japan without him noticing. He was on his last legs after being out of convoys and fuel. Bo's community has a lot of memes about how you win the game if you control Iwo Jima, regardless of what happened in the rest of the game. "Doesn't matter, I have Iwo Jima."

The encirclements are pretty standard for HoI4 multiplayer though. You win games by encircling divisions like that, but usually your opponent has their own tanks and micros them to try to counter-encircle yours. There's typically a high turnover rate of tanks as both the Axis and the USSR lose many divisions but produce more to replace them.

Nice event, though i liked the UK vs Germany event more.
Still it was awesome to see what the influencers were able to do.

Though i doubt they would have had any chance if Daniel did not go rogue.

I would love to see a mod featured in the next event, that would also be a major show of appreciation for the modding community.
Kaiserreich could be fun, but is so heavily scripted that i doubt a fun scenario could arise from it.
My favourite for an event like this would be "Old World Blues" the Hoi4 Fallout mod.

Since influencers and devs both focus their experiences on the core game this conversion might get some more spicy gameplay.

Might even be a three way...
